I personnaly know the pilot and can assure you that he did not do more than two to three practise loops before the show. I must admit that he was trained to do these type of things (and many more) during his military career, but having said that, he is a pilot with exceptional abilities and an excellent instructor, that is highly respected by his students and peers.

Why did he do it? Long story, which I think don't need any discussion here. Maybe one day when all the dust has settled, he will tell us.

Would love to see an R22 looped!

I was always under the impression that there would never be enough power to be able to do that and the wings would fall off!! Yikes!

Oh well, would love to see that definitely.

Not a loop, but not a bad photo.

mike

did you do any ag work in NZ? get a camera man in the right place and you can make standard spray turns, look pretty good. doesn't matter what machine, a good pilot flying really balanced will get the machine over the 90 deg, even easier with a fert bucket on.

Hi SF, never flew Ag in NZ, but used to work as a Loader driver for Geoff Kitto, at Kitto Helicopters down in Balclutha many years ago. Have sat in the left seat when he was flying. You could discribe his turns as aerial ballet.

Didn't think the picture was anything too remakable, just a nice photo of an R22. Smile

Great weekend and the next one is 26-27 May. Come over and enjoy a beer or 2 Wink

Talking about the 407 loop and roll in South Africa... did you see the 407's order list rocket up since then? I wouldn't be suprised if Bell paid the pilot a large sum of money to do it. Twisted Evil
After their tailrotor incidents I think they needed something like that. Even though Bell didn't approve of it then, I think they are thankful now that something like that happened when it did.
