Hi all,

I'm pretty new to the forum and have been browsing through and have found some really good info.

I am currently working in Australia, saving towards my CPL(H) and hopefully Instructors rating. The plan is to move to the UK to do it as my fiancée is from Northern Ireland and wants to get back closer to home.

At this stage I am looking at training at either Whizzard helicopters in Welshpool or Tiger in Shobdon. Have had trial flights with both and both seem really good. Has anyone trained at either of these schools? If so how did you like it?

Any advice would be hugely appreciated, as I'm sure all of you know what a huge investment a CPL(H) is.

Can't wait to get started! Very Happy

Greg

I'm also new to the forum and haven't posted anything before!

I trained at Welshpool last year and gained my PPL(H). The instructors up there are a good bunch of guys. There are 4 instructors based there at the moment, I think.

It's also a very nice part of the country to be flying in - You have have the Welsh Hills and lakes to the west that provide some spectacular views!!

Tiger seem to be a slightly bigger school, but were very helpfull when I went down to see them!

Veritair down here in Cardiff now advertise that they will be starting training soon - but I'm not sure what the full story is. (www.veritair.com)

Good luck with your move!

Cheers for the advice Welsh-Heli-Pilot.

How did you find the training at Welshpool? They seemed very helpful and forthcoming with info and advice when I went for a trial flight. Also the academy scheme is a big draw card.

I'm currently about halfway through my PPL(A) here in OZ (as the nearest heli school is 4 hrs drive away) Crying or Very sad but the school I'm at isn't particularly helpful or thorough, so I want to make sure the school I do my Heli license at isn't like that.

I just stumbled on to Veritair's website the other day and am waiting to hear back from them, will be interesting to see what they will be offering.

Thanks again and happy flying!

You can't go far wrong with Whizzard at Welshpool.

And as welsh-heli-pilot commented, the scenery around that part of the world is out-of-this world.

We lived in North Wales for quite a while so really miss it up there.

Good luck.

Never been to Whizzard, but did take a few trial lessons at Tiger, very nice bunch but a little out of the way for me. Just visit as many schools as you can and get a feel for which is right for you, I'm sure you'll make the right decision.

Maybe you could also take a look at the Helicentre in Liverpool. I did my PPL(H) their on the S300c. They also have R22, R44 and Jetranger.

Did a lot of my training over Wales and visited Welshpool on a few of my cross country flights. Very Happy
