Hi,

Can anyone tell me which Confuser I should buy when studying for PPL.

Name, Publisher, Version and a book code (ISBN number I think) and where to buy it from.

Thanks

Stu

Hi Stubert, I have the fourth edition of The Private Pilots Licence Course Question and Answer Simplifier by AFE. I am still reading it and although it's fixed wing orientated I do find it very helpfull. It also contains explanations to the answers. There are 3 tests for each topic and includes air law, met, nav, flight performance and planning, principles of flight, human factors, aircraft general and communications. The ISBN no. is 1 874783 28 4. the cheapest place at the time was Amazon.co.uk. I paid 12 but this was a while ago now. Hope this helps and good luck with your study.

Thanks Paddywak,

Found the book you have, albeit with a different ISBN number. Published by AFE and written by a Jeremy Pratt.

Is there not a confuser book dedicated to helicopters? Seems strange....there must be a market..... Or am I missing the point and using the fixed wing version is what is needed?

Welcome to the world of rotary, where we learn alot of the fixed wing stuff because it's too expensive for the CAA to come up with a helicopter study programme. I have been using the Pooleys books but there are others such as Oxford but I can not comment on these as I have not had a nose. There is also a few heli specific books that are worth having such as Principles of Helicopter fight by Wagtendonk and also The Helicopter Pilots Manual by Norman Bailey. I aslo believe there to be a book by Phil Croucher that is a study question and answer type book specific to helis but i dont have it ( yet). Transair have most of the books if you want to go along to one and have a look before you buy, but I do tend to use the internet to save a few , that way it may even go along way to one more hour in the air. It is anoying that we as rotary students aren't catered for in the same way as fixed wing students, but it just makes us more special.
Good luck which ever way you decide to study, all the best , Leigh. Very Happy
