Hello All,

After years of dreaming about flying helicopters I finally got my chance when my wife bought me a trial lesson. It took three attempts to take it due to bad weather (Heavy rain and fog) but I finally managed it last Sunday. It was everything I ever thought and more!

I still dont feel like I've come down yet! I fully intend to go for my PPL(H) as a hobby flyer. I'm now selling all my worldly belongings to get back up in the air. My private number plate, one of my motorbikes and my classic truck are all up for sale, that shuold just about cover the training Smile I've noticed another one or two bikers on here selling their bikes Laughing

I had my lesson with www.Heli-airWales.co.uk in an R22, they were excellent.

Anyone else fairly local to me?

Hey bom, Welcome to Helitorque, and the addictive world of rotary flying!

It would be remiss of me not to invite you to look over my traing diary so that you can get an idea of what you've let yourself in for..! Wink

Feel free to ask us any questions as you go through training, too - sometimes a different way of explaining a concept, or a different viewpoint can help with understanding.

Best of luck with the training - and do let us know how you get on!

Cool

Hi James,

Thanks for the link, I'll have a good read over your diary and will almost certainly have many questions Smile

Do you know for a link to information of what you are allowed to do once you have your PPL(H)? Flying laws etc?

Smile

Not a link as such but to answer the question of what you are allowed to do once you have your PPL(H) - have a read of the book "Aviation Law and Meteorology" by Trevor Thom, its part of the "Air Pilot's Manual" series and will probably be the books suggested to study for the exams. It explains exactly what you are and aren't allowed to do but to paraphrase a book into a sentence - anything as long as the weather is suitable, you don't receive payment, you have the land owners permission if you want to land somewhere, ATC's permission if you want to enter some types of air space and you stay a certain distance away from people/vehicles/buildings etc.

Good luck with the lessons!

Hi Niho,

Thanks for the info, I'll have a look for that book. I'll chat with the instructors first as they may have copies to borrow if its recommended reading.

Looking forward to getting started so reading up and asking questions whilst I wait. Just from a quick nose over this forum I know I need to check with the instructors about various failures such as tail rotar to see if there is any training given.

Great site Smile
