Norwegian Air Ambulance selects Polycon Wireless Intercom system
April 13, 2011

Becker Avionics' partner, Axnes Aviation AS, just announced the sale of the Polycon Wireless Intercom Extension system to Norsk Luftambulanse AS (Norwegian Air Ambulance AS) for retrofit into their entire EMS fleet of helicopters. The product will be installed in the company's ten EC135s and one EC145, as well as in their lead company, Norwegian Air Ambulance Foundation's one EC135, throughout 2011. Retrofits will be accomplished as the helicopters are brought in for servicing. The Polycon Wireless Intercom product will be integrated with the existing Becker Avionics audio and intercom system, the AS3100, on each aircraft.

The installation is engineered by Heli-One, the world's largest provider of third-party helicopter maintenance and a member of the CHC Helicopter group. This certification is classified as a "minor" modification under their EASA Part 21 J approval (EASEA GM 21A.91), and will include design verification testing, non-ingression verification, antenna radiation pattern and crosstalk prevention, as well as mechanical and structural systems assessments. Thus, no STC is required.

The Norwegian Air Ambulance Fleet Manager, Mr. Lasse Dahl, commented regarding the background for obtaining the Polycon Systems for their helicopter fleet, said: "It has long been a request from our EMS personnel to be able to communicate with their helicopter when operating outside of the aircraft during rescue missions. During tests, the Polycon product has proven that it will provide our operating units with this capability, even over long distances and under difficult environmental conditions. Bottom line, we believe the Polycon system will improve safety and efficiency in our daily operations."
