Probably - and I'm assuming here - that by the time you got to the stage of deciding you need the ATPL(H) and the IR, the CPL exams would have expired and you would then need to complete the whole ATPL syllabus anyway.
For me, the CPL(H) seems to be the right choice, as I have no plans to, or likelihood of, flying ATPL / multi-crew helicopters, so I have cracked on with the CPL(H) studying (when not on HeliTorque!)
