Probably - and I'm assuming here - that by the time you got to the stage of deciding you need the ATPL(H) and the IR, the CPL exams would have expired and you would then need to complete the whole ATPL syllabus anyway.

For me, the CPL(H) seems to be the right choice, as I have no plans to, or likelihood of, flying ATPL / multi-crew helicopters, so I have cracked on with the CPL(H) studying (when not on HeliTorque!)

So if you had no desire/intention to fly off-shore multi-crew but did hope to one day fly single pilot IFR which is the way to go?

Or are you unlikely to fly single pilot IFR without any off-shore experience?

Now I think you can add an IR to the CPL, but I'm not entirely sure, so I stand to be corrected...

You can add an IR to a CPL(H) but it involves further written exams.
