Are you allowed in this day and age of "equal rights" to specify the gender of job applicants?

What would happen if you put out an advert that specified male pilots only? Or what if the job was an entirely different one but you requested males or females only?

Is it not sexual discrimination?

Not that I'm fussed - couldn't apply anyway...

Not sure if I agree with jobs just for one gender or another but working in radio advertising every day we make quite a few adverts that are asking for just one sex or another and all get passed by the RACC without a problem so pretty sure to say that it must be legal.

Having said that I personally don't agree with it at all, I mean I would just love to have the chance to be a surrogate mother at some point!!! Laughing

Righto, so it is "allowed".

I'm unsure about single sex job adverts too - it definitely seems a little dubious and/or unfair in this context. (Obviously there are occasions where it is imperative you have a man or women only do the job - acting for example!)

So why would you ask for female pilots only? What is it that a female pilot would bring to the work place that a male pilot COULD NOT? (Apart from the obvious jokes.) I am skeptical about this advert.

Just for the record I am not disgruntled or anything - just curious and soliciting opinions!

I shan't be applying purely because I don't qualify - not because I have a philisophical objection (which I don't think I do [I am still undecided!]). (Beat that for too much punctuation!) I just wondered what people thought of the discrimination and more to the point, thinking about it now, how it would be if it were the other way round i.e. women need not apply.

What makes you think Peru - or any other country - has the same namby-pamby tree-hugging socialist rules on politically correct employment practices?

Fair point in a way - I suppose I figured (unconsciously) that our way was the only way.

Still can't see why you would ask for female pilots only... Maybe it is an all female crew.

PS I reckon I probably am a tree-hugger. Very Happy

Come now a Enviromental Wack Job is looking for a Female Pilot /A+P to fly around while they exract "Pirate sunken treasure" off of Peru. If you noticed they want more than one for a 207 foot research vessel. I wonder were the savage ships will be? First thing first, they are using the Inc. American rather the Ltd. which is brit version in Inc. On a British web sight. Has anybody did a search on these people? My guess is that some fellow got a boat and wants a pilot/girlfriend. There I said it.

I wouldn't mind being called a male misogynist pig. But please don't call me Sid - he's that waanker from the cops.

The only Sid the Sexist (Sidney Smutt) I am aware of is the character from Viz magazine.

However if Weekend Warrior would like to make it clear which Sid he is referring to when using that foul and abusive language, I would be grateful.

It would be a shame that I thought he would be talking about SilsoeSid when he in fact wasn't, wouldn't it!!!

Thanks

SilsoeSid the sex..y, (not sex...ist!!)

Just spotted a banner ad on PPRuNe...

Quote:
The Strategic Defense of the Environment Group, Inc.
is searching for helicopter pilots to be on a 207 foot research vessel.
We will be extracting a pirate sunken treasure off the coast of Peru. And will
be on the seven seas. Robinson R44 Clipper with pop up floats aboard, with
helideck and helicopter garage. A pilot-mechanic would be a super plus,
but not mandatory. Please send resumes to kbsdeg@aol.com

So they aren't looking for female specifically any more. Wonder what happened?

- Someone pulled them up on the ad and told them they couldn't specify female.
- They got their female pilot(s) and are just looking for more pilots now.
- His wife found out and put a stop to it!!!.
