HI Heliaviator;

First, what software are you using now and what format is the video tape; and are you using a PC or a Mac? You say frame rate is affected, but is that frame dropout or slowed-down video?

Let me know and I'll try and help.

Cheers,

Copterfan.

PC
CyberLink PowerDirector
mpeg2
Frame dropout I think; it hesitates on playback (consistent timing between the hesitation)
although its less obious on google video playback

Thanks

Looks like dropout to me, is the tape MiniDv? If you are sure that the connections twixt camera and PC are OK, and the cable is reliable, then I'd start with the camera.

Play it back on the camera screen, and if the dropout is there, then see if it has affected any other footage. I often have seen dropout in MiniDv if the tape has been taped over, at all. If the tape is new, then have the camera checked.

Most of the top capture programs will tell you of frame dropout as it happens during capture from the camera, but if they don't then there is one other area that you need to look at. Codecs - these are the software drivers that your capture prog uses to translate the Dv footage into editable footage. I have had problems with them in the past, you must have the right ones installed for your camera type and what you intend your outputted footage to be, (eg Mpeg2 or whatever). Check the website of your editing prog to make sure that you have the latest and best, they can also become corrupted over time.

I hope that you are also saving your footage away from your pc?

I have only touched on Power Director, but I have used Avid and Adobe Premiere. Avid is expensive, but amazing (you can get a cut-down version), Adobe Premiere is cheaper but very good. They are both excellent on the PC. Macs have an amazing prog called Final Cut Pro, but AFAIK it only works on Macs. I have only met one person that has learnt all the commands on both Avid and Premiere! They can do everything in editing terms. It depends how much you intend to do.

Hope this is some help, if I can do anything else, just ask. Wink
