I'm still hoping that the wx will be good for 29th with Sloanes.

If it's cr@p on the day and we can't fly I will try to persuade my boss to let me go in and defer my holiday to the Monday - will see how it goes and keep in touch!

RC - As you've been before, do you tend to pay for your park entrance on the door, do you pre-book, or do Sloane do it as a group admission package? I noticed on the website that they do an open ticket which you can buy in advance and still save 6 quid each on the normal entry fee. Just wondered about that - it wouldn't be very good to book for a specific day and find the weather wasn't suitable, but this open ticket sounds like it could do the job!

Wasn't aware of the Open Ticket deal - sounds good!

We've always paid on the door in the past - haven't pre-booked for a specific date in case the wx is poor and we dont' go.

Actually my pax on Friday pre-paid for a specific date over the web 2 years ago but then couldn't fly with me cos he cut 3 fingers off with a circular saw the day before (yes, really!!!) so I spoke to them and they stamped it as an open ticket. Hopefully they will still honour it!!!

Are you still going to go tomorrow (Friday)?

I'm not to sure if the weather is set to improve but Monday looks a bit less wet.

I just got back home from Leicester Forrest East Services - which is as far as RC and I got!!

The weather is terrible. I live nearer to Leicester Forrest East than he does, so I got home first and thought I would break the bad news to you all!!

Can't do Monday I'm afraid, that was my last spare days holiday before Xmas Crying or Very sad

Well, we tried really hard if nothing else!

TAFs were miserable, but we met up at Sloanes anyway.
Clearly couldn't fly, but we set off by car anyway.
Leicester Forest East, reality set in - it's a really miserable day and even Alton Towers isn't much fun in TSRA!!!

So ... weather diversion to the services for breakfast, then RTB!!!

Nice to meet you Craig, hope we get to go flying next time!

Just back from a fantastic day out! The weather made a remarkable improvement overnight and the flight couldn't have gone better. It was probably the most challenging trip we have done so far by ourselves, so spending the time on the flight planning was well worth it. Landing site was very comfortable and being a Monday the park was very quiet meaning no queues for any rides!

I highly recommend this trip if you're a big kid at heart and want to do something a bit different.

Of course the best ride of all had to be the flight there and back. Wink
"Air" came a close second.

Excellent - glad the trip came off!!!

What approach did you get? I've always manage to approach from the East and land facing the hotel, which is a nice approach.

Did u get any photos? And did u get a ride to the main entrance in the security truck for your

Hi Craig,

The wind was from 260 degrees, so we managed to do that exact approach. As there are trees surrounding the "H" we approached to the more open part and hover taxied across to the other side. We then noticed that the actual "H" is located on a bit of a slope, so opted to park just to the left of it where the ground was flatter!

We arrived within one minute of our ETA and had a car come and pick us up, drive us to the main entrance, and then pick us up at 1615. Decided to leave at that time as a horrible black cloud was approaching. The only rain we saw was when the heavens opened just as we had departed the site. Perfectly timed!

I am usually loathed to paying a landing fee at any private site, and I did try to talk my way out of it, but as it was Alton Towers - somewhere we'd been wanting to fly to for ages as a personal goal, we thought it best not to argue! I did however point out before we left that it would be nice to at least have a wind sock on the field, especially as they are taking all these fifty pounds off people. They agreed and said they would bring it up at the next meeting.

Well we finally managed to get to Alton Towers by heli today Very Happy

Put the "trust your compass and watch" theory into practice on the flight up, when the Burton on Trent cooling towers didn't appear where my map (or GPS) said they were going to. Kept my nerve and stuck with my heading ... and found 4 big holes in the ground. They have decomissioned the power station!!!

Then discovered that "H" doesn't only stand for "Helipad". It also stands for "Hen night parking" ... according to a group of girls visiting Alton Towers today. They seemed suitably impressed when we landed next to their cars! Shocked

As for
