Helped out at Croft Farm's Airday today. The proceeds from the day were split between the Missionary Aviation Fellowship and the County Air Ambulance.
Quite a few helis in attendance, an R22 from Gloucester, a lovely Sud Aviation Alouette 2 G-BVSD from Cheltenham another R22 and a Schweizer 269.
Helimed 06A a Bond EC135 normally based at Strensham services operated out of Croft Farm today. He had to go out on a red call about 1330. About 15 mins later a Vans RV7 unfortunately hit a bump on its landing run out roll and somersaulted on the runway. The paramediccs on the site requested and air ambulance and the Warwickshire 109 was scrambled.
All in all a good turnout of heli's and those flying from Wellesbourne, we had the services of Frnakie, operating the radio for the day.
Croft Farm is a great little farm strip, well worth a visit.
The pilot was OK but suffered a broken collar bone. They hadn't been flying the plane long since they finished building it. Must have been gutting for them.
G-MEDS looked great. Was helping the paramedics on site and heard one say they had requested an air ambulance because of possible spinal injuries and was expecting the EC135 that had been there all day to come back.
Couldn't believe it when G-MEDS was circling overheard then made an approach, landed and shutdown.
Good thing was that G-MEDS carries a trauma doctor on board so he was able to assess the injuries better. While they were there the EC135 turned up and circled overhead before being stood down.
The pilots injuries were deemed OK to go by land ambulance and there was a lot of running towards G-MEDS that started and departed for the M1 in not much more than a minute. An incredible amount of flying for those guys from Coventry to near Worcester then back past Coventry to the M1.
All in a days work.
