CHC new minimus for Norway positions
Take from their career webpage

- Valid JAR/FCL licence on helicopter (CPL-H)
- Valid IRH rating (or a plan of fulfilling this requirement in near future)
- ATPLH theory
- 200 flying hrs. on helicopter
Closing date: April 30, 2009

I think they are on a process to hire 30 new pilots until 2010

Interesting that they've lowered their hours to 200, looks like you can do your IR through them as well (out of your own pocket of course!)

Like Norsk they were finding it challenging to find qualified pilots with IR and 1000hrs! 200hrs has pretty much been the benchmark in the UK sector for years.

Interesting.

HH - Are you aware of any schemes where the offshore company foots the bill for your IR and then you pay it back over a set number of years?

I'm sure many pilots would rather start on 30k a year instead of 40k, take the salary hit for 5/6 years, and avoid a huge personal loan.

I can understand the companies being a bit scared to do this, but surely the best way of getting the pilots they want is to pluck 'fresh' CPLs and train them how they want them with regards to IR/CRM/SOPs. It all seems a bit 'hit and miss' to me and a bit short-sighted to be honest*.

Maybe we'll see a return to sponsorship, as this recession has the potential to cause a reduction in the number of (suitably qualified) pilots.

Or maybe I should stop dreaming and err...get some sleep.

*(I am aware of Bond's scheme)

Unfortunately those days of sponserships are long gone for the moment. There is a surplus of IR qualified pilots, just none of them have 500hrs let along 1000hrs!

So I guess this is a good sign for the guys waiting for work, I think the UK sector will be quiet for a while longer with regards to employment.

Good luck to everyone applying!

Isn't that the case though. It is the old "Catch 22" of the aviation industry....
Companies want pilots to have high experience, but few will hire a pilot so they can get it! Laughing

Never understood that one. They have little choice now but to lower minimums. Unfortunately, there is an inherent risk in doing so for both the pilot and company!

Gotta go..... Helicopter

I applied to Norsk and didn't even get a reply, with 3000+hrs and 3yrs of SPIFR, maybe I am too old.

I guess there are other criteria than just an IR and experience.

Vee,

Not sure why they wouldn't have hired you, perhaps you had too much ecperience, who knows. I don't know if Bristows are implimenting any new criteria for recruiting, compared to the original Norsk system. I believe they are inviting surplus Bristow pilots from Aberdeen to come over the puddle before bring on new staff.

Paulo, did you do an interview in Jan with Norsk?

HH,
They didn't call me for the interview. One told me that few had been there because of what you just said...Those surplus pilots of Bristow's UK will fill some vacancies.... Confused I don't know.
I'm continuing looking for a chance in the North Sea.... Tough times. At least I'm working, altough few hours a month Embarassed
I'm really interested in this opportunity!

Cheers

Yes, same thing happened to me.
2000 hours helicopter, IR-H, ATPL theory, 800 hours twin engine(AS355/AS365/S64), 1300 hours PIC and never received an answer.
Probably too old...sigh!!!

Hey Paulo, have you tried HeliPortugal?

I hate to say it but nobody is hiring at the moment in the North Sea. CHC is a nightmare at the moment with pilots threatening strike action against rosters and conditions and Bristow recently mentioned the possibillity of redundancies throughout the company. Happy times in the North Sea............

I would still fire CV's to the companies to get on their files of potential future crew.

Lets hope things are going to change soon!

Tell me about it. The works really fallen off. I've started to make moves to go back to my old career for a while. Something I really don't want to do.
