Hi all,

I have always been mad about heli's, and when money is right, I would love to take my PPL(H). I have one question though. Can I go straight to PPL(H) or do I have to do fixed wing first?

Thanks in advance.

Andy

Hi Andy,

You don't need to go anywhere near a fixed wing! You can go straight from scratch onto helicopters. That's what I did and most people I know have never flown a fixed wing.

Have you been up for a trial lesson yet?

Sarah

Hi Geezah, welcome to Helitorque.

As you're in Leicester, may I recommend East Midlands Helicopters, just up the road in Costock. I did my training there some years ago, you might like to read my training "blog" here, if you've a couple of hours to spare! Wink

You might also like to take a look at this page on EMH's website - click the Q&A link, and there's answers to many questions there.

Of course, if you have any more, we're always here to try to help you out!

Thanks for the reply WhirlyGirl and James T Lowe. That is really good to know. I was not sure if it was like my Class 1 HGV test (have to work up to it).

I have not had a trial lesson yet, but would love to go up in a heli. I am watching my pennys at the moment due to my other half not being in full time work due to health reasons. My mom would love to go up in a heli, and as she is 69 this year, I want her to have that first before I take any flights/lessons myself. Sadly, it is just affording it.. lol

Thanks

Andy

Just an update..

Things have changed big time here. My wife was diagnosed with a bladder condition (she is only 30) that makes her go into retention and she has to cathitorise every morning and night. She is prone to infections and has regular (unsceduled) hospital visits.

She has since been discriminated against at work and ost jobs due to people thinking the condition is "made up". She has been out of work since, and money is now getting tight.

Because of this, I have not been on this forum for a while (sorry) as my Heli plans have been put on a very far back burner. However, i still want to go up in one, and one day learn to fly. However I am not sure when that will be sadly.

Thanks for all the advice. I will be around, and here is hoping for a hovering future soon... lol.

Andy
