Guys,
Just out of interest, is it possible/wise/unwise to complete some of the PPL(H) exams before undertaking the full flying hours while you wait for your bank account to increase to the level needed to do the full course or do the exams become that much easier having done some actual flying?

If you fly for 4 or 5 hours, you will have a much better understanding of the aerodynamic concepts of flapback, ground effect, power required, inflow roll, dynamic airflow.

Your AGK will also benefit from doing preflight inspections and engine starts.

You might get some insight into Law when you deal with the licensing, air tragic control and radio work.

Similar with Met, seeing the weather from closer up.

AC,

Thanks for your reply.

In fact I have already done a number of hours but have decided to wait until I have sufficient funds to complete the course and just wondered if I could do some of the exams in the meantime.

Thanks again.

A8C,

I wish i'd done some of mine a bit sooner (as i ended up doing a few on the same day at the end),

however www.helicopterlessons.info/the-uk-pplh-syllabus-jaa-easa/ says:

1) skills test needs to be undertaken within 18 months of passing your first ground exam (or you need to retake those that fall outside this)

and

2) skills test needs to be undertaken within 6 months of completing flying training

i admit i thought the timings here were different, i thought it was
all exams within 18mth of the first
exams valid for 24months
skills test within 6 months of completing course

and this may be different again under new easa rules, but might be worth checking before you sit any

cheers

tom
