Not strictly helicopters, but just wondering if anyone's visiting the RIAT this weekend at RAF Fairford?

Miss Helen and I are considering the possibility of popping down on Sunday.... (It's a bit further to go than when it was temporarily at Cottesmore a few years back!)

I'll keep an eye out for you! I fully imagine Alan will be there actually.

Anyone else?

After having worked there at the show for the last 7 years from 0600 to 1900 it is a very pleasant relief not to be going this year.

Didn't see you James.

Mind you two out of about 100,000 would have been a rare chance.
We spent most of the flying display up at the 09 end of the runway, about at the point where the fast jets hit the Loud pedal for takeoff.

Quite impressed by the flying display especially the Heli's. Army histerics were a bit lacking in machinery. Good Blue Eagles display.
Tried to think of the control inputs for the Lynx back flip from the hover. ( Must be something like hard back on the cyclic and when nose up add collective to start the flip). All from a non pilot.

Indeed - I didn't actually venture as far as the 09 end of the runway - I was more "based" at the 27 threshold end...

Bit disappointed that the B-52 didn't fly. But the B-1 was as impresively loud! We enjoyed the Red Arrows with another execptional performance! And yup - excellent heli displays. I've never seen a V-22 in action.. that was err, interesting. Odd thing, isn't it? Wink

I've something like 600 photographs of the event to weed through; I've managed to get them onto the computer, but that's all so far!

I took a fair few pictures but as I've not got an SLR type camera, I got a fair few pictures of clear blue sky.

ATC seemed to be giving a wind direction of 070 most of the time, but some aircraft seemed to be departing downwind, Strange!!

I suppose if it's only a couple of knots of wind, it doesn't make a lot of difference, does it?

I guess with the power in some of those jets it wouldn't matter either.

Probably for a small plank it would be a problem.

A mate who I went with, spent his time down near the 27 end around, as he put it, the marshalling yard.

Should have gone down there and seen how the military guys marshal aircraft, could have swapped tips.
