I can't really make out what shade of purple it is - but on the subject of purple 44's, there is also G-CDWK which is loosely based at Sloanes.
It is a dark purple with a gold stripe, and its a Raven II.
I doubt it would have been the one in the picture though thinking about it, because it was new this (last) year and Google Earth images are normally older than that. My house isn't on mine, and its been here 4 years! |

Afternoon HeliCraig
I have just installed the latest version of Google Earth. Maybe your house might be on there now. Send me your postcode by PM and I will have a look.

We flew to the Farringford Hotel last year. We landed (R44) on the putting green. The area is surrounded by tall trees so it requires a light aircraft and steep approach. They were very friendly and said they would like a |

Thanks Steve, I was trying to remember who had posted this last time the IOW was mentioned.
I had been searching around the West Wight area via yell.com and Google Earth and had had a look at the Farringford. Seems reasonably priced as the prices quoted are per room. Can't look at Google Earth at work, graphics cards in the PC are rubbish, will look tonight.
I am going to the Island in early February so will pop along there and have a look around. I'll see how many they would be happy to accomodate.

Sorry, I don't know. It seems like they just want their landing facility to 'do some good', so they'd probably take suggestions. Maybe it is that they think if they don't ask for a landing fee, then everyone will want to land there ..who knows why they charge for helis and not cars? |

Been in contact with the Farringford Hotel in Freshwater and they stated they are happy for helicopters to land on the grass north of the hotel. I guess they mean the putting green.
Measuring this area via Google Earth looks to give approx 40 by 80metres of space. May have to speak to them about this if need be.
The room rate for a two night stay at August Bank Holiday for dinner, bed and breakfast is |

I get over to the island for Cowes week each year - a great gig for petrol-heads.
We stay in a heli- friendy B&B with a massive field to land in, and who's name escapes me at the mo - any good? If so I'll dig the details out _________________ TC - Pilot to the Stars.

TC, thanks for the info, if you can let me have the info either on the thread or by PM and I will go and have a look when I'm on the island in mid February.
The Farringford at Freshwater Bay only seemed to have an area of about 40 x 80 m so would be limited to numbers.
The Priory Bay near Ryde will only take one/two helis during the Summer.
Incidentally TC, have you ever flown into the Cowes Heliport, I've been through Cowes many times but never found it. I guess it may be one of the school playing fields.
Thanks

Was it Newnham Farm House B+B, between Wootton Bridge and Binstead and has or had a small grass strip, TC? He was happy for me to fly in with one heli a while back but it is rather remote so transport would be needed for any jollies to civilisation.
Also there is Swainston Manor 50 41.3N 001 22.4 W 01983 521121 - used to have at least 2 pads, or the Cowes one is Cowes High School 50 45.6N 001 18.5W which has a pad (used to be operated by ?? Helicopter and Aviation Services Ltd) - definatetly still in use but don't know about overnight parking or the security aspect here...

Has a definite date been sorted out yet for Isle of Wight fly-in?
I don't mind if August Bank Holiday Weekend doesn't fit in - we will go along with whatever date suits everybody else.

I'll take note of the ideas and pop along and have a look while I'm over there on the 17th February.
I seem to remember reading somewhere on a website that Swainston Manor had a couple of poor writeups. Thats the place near Calbourne isn't it. That seems to be in the middle of nowhere.
I will probably have my car over there so could give lifts if its a weekend while I'm over there, or hire a small minibus.
If its a different weekend I could be persuaded to go again especially if a Heli was passing Didcot on the way.
I believe Cowes high school is the location for Cowes Heliport for Cowes week.

Yep - have heard that but personally not been there and yes also a bit remote.
Yes it is the Cowes week heliport - MrsPW2B's mother lives about 1/2 mile away!
We'd also 'love' to be collected from Shoreham airfield if anyone en route!

Newnham farm looks to be booked for August Bank Holiday but could look at other dates but there doesn't appear to be a lot of space for more than say 2 heli's. Will look around the island while we are there.

That surprises me - never got round to landing there but when I spoke to him on the phone I got the impression that space wasn't a problem. Maybe we could park along the runway
