True, and its the Helicopter Clubs 40th Anniversary and it would be fun to have some new faces as teams having a go at competing. There are 40 rooms at the Aviator hotel held waiting for competitors and it'll be great fun - so sign up now with club, all heli types accepted and often its the R22's that do best! ( says I, a 206 and 44 pilot!) |

From previous years, one part is a cross country Nav Ex, another is a slalom course. Your co-pilot holds a bucket of water on a long rope and directs you so the bucket passes through obstacles and then deposit it at the finish line.
From what I have seen in the past its lots of fun.
I will be there to see the slalom day hopefully.

There's a description on the Sywell website.
Summary is as follows:
1) The main event of the Championships is the Navigation Exercise and Timed Arrival which usually takes place on the Saturday and is run in accordance with FAI World Championship rules
2) Arriving back at the field the crew has to fly a timed square pattern and finally lower a skittle into a sloping roof target.
3) Saturday afternoon sees the Precision Square event where long and short markers are attached to the helicopters. A square course is flown with turns at two corners during which one marker must always maintain ground contact and one must always be clear whilst at the same keeping the markers within a set of tramlines.
4) During the Slalom the crew must carry a bucket of water on the end of a rope around a course of various gates finally placing the bucket on a target. This event is run against the clock with penalties for missing gates, water spilled and distance from target centre.
5) The Fender event is again an exercise in crew co-ordination and pilot skill. Each crew must carry a boat fender and deposit it in a barrel before returning to the start position and repeating the process twice more. Run against the clock the top crews will make it look really easy.
Regards,

As a newbie, I'll not be flying, but would love to go and have a look. From what I've read the Saturday afternoon and Sunday is best for spectators?
If so I could make a Heli weekend of it
Does anyone know where I can get tickets from? |

I think you just turn up HeliRazor - at least for the actual championships. I think there is a "do" on one of the evenings for helicopter club members but don't quote me on that - I've been traveling around so much I haven't even had time to read the circular!
Not sure if we're going along this year but if we do it will be on the Sunday. One year we took a whole picnic along with us!! Somehow we managed to get the whole lot into an R44 including the table and chairs (they were fold up ones)!!
I'm sure you'll enjoy the event, and it will get you to meet a whole load of helicopter people and forum members - and a good way to learn about the world of helicopters.
Might see you there.

I won't be making it which is a shame, but on the plus side the reason is that I will be back in Mallorca flying for a long weekend...
I hope you all have a great time and I look forward to watching it next year! |

I've been to the last couple, and I would love to be there this weekend. Alas, I don't think I'm going to be able to make it... way way too much on at the moment.
Have a good time though - and I hope the weather is as favourable this year, as it was last! _________________ J. |
