Wish I lived closer to you!
I've phoned 4 schools now in my area and only one has called me back with regards to PPL training! The one that has like I say wants £40.00 per exam plus, extra over for any classroom ground school training, plus about £140.00 to join their club (which you have to, to be able to learn with them!)
I don't mind paying for whats right, but it kind of feels like being pumped for extra cash!
Costock's not a million miles from you, Helirazor - no more than an hour on the M1, I'd have thought. When I did my course, there was no extra cost for the exams and (limited) ground school. _________________ J.
While I await some IT Wallah resetting my password, here is the list of FS(H) in the Sheffield area. Order alphabetical. School, location. This is pretty much the 1hr radius of action from Sheffield by road.
Alpha Helicopters - EGSY
Central Helicopters - EGBN
Dragon Helicopters - EGSY
East Midlands Helicopters - Costock
HeliYorks - EGNJ/ other locations
Hields Aviation - EGCJ
Kuki Helicopter Sales Ltd - EGNE
Multiflight - EGNM
Sandtoft Helicopters - EGCF
TAMS - EGSY
Yorkshire Helicopters (maybe a different name like HeliJet Aviation, used to be Northern Helicopters and contains the Yorkshire Helicopters company) - Leeds Coney Park
There is also somebody flying out of Tattonhill but I'm not sure of the name.
Choice factors - who will do the teaching/ which machine type/ liklihood of completion within 45hrs/ $ rate per hour/ chance of the school remaining solvent long enought to complete the course (I know of four that have gone into liquidation/ receivership/ administration in recent years). On $$$ rate watch things like landing fees as £5/ landing during PPL trining will have more impact on finances that 8 * £40.
Ah, here is the wallah ... _________________ helicopter-redeye

Yes, hidden extras are very important. Some schools will whack on as much as £20 per landing and even charge for circuits!! Not their fault, I know, as it's the airfield that is charging the landing fee, however some schools do build this factor into their hourly rate instead of billing you separately for the landings, so you just have to check what exactly it is you are paying for.
