Midges are the scourge of many Scottish holidays, of the Englishman collecting blackberries in the wilds of the countryside and the things wot get you when you go to enjoy a nice open air evening concert held near a lake.. For something SO small, they have teeth the size and veracity of alligators and when you slap the little blighter on your arm (they ALWAYS die) the replacement battalions arrive at twice the speed at which they are wiped out.
Citronella seems to be the only effective thing (besides splatting them but when you do that it's cos you have already been bitten..)

Well I'm hardly likely to splatter any small people unless I'm flying a Brantly. But if midges of the flying insect variety are going to bite me then I'm not going to hesitate to bite back. I'm sick of being eaten alive by insects - whenever I go on holiday I seem to get attacked all over. They must like the taste of my blood.
