Haven't you been told yet by your erstwhile instructor that, when you do your first solo up&down it's -

OFF TO THE PUB AND IT'S YOUR ROUND Wink

then, when you do your 1st circuit it's -

OFF TO THE PUB AND IT'S YOUR ROUND Wink

then, when you do your solo cross-country it's

OFF TO THE PUB AND IT'S YOUR ROUND Wink

then, when you do your Final Handling Test it's ......... well, maybe by then someone else might buy YOU a pint instead .........

It's in the training manual somewhere, I am pretty sure Confused

We don't do a solo "up and down", we go straight for the full on circuit, then the student buys several pints!! Of whiskey!!! Laughing

Yup. Usually when the student makes the full circuit and gets down in one piece, I need a drink!

Had one leave the circuit at a towered airport when I told him not to do so and got lost. That was two drinks. Students never seem to shock me anymore. I'm shocked out.

Shocked

I seem to remember, at one time, a long time ago, that the "first solo up&down" was quite the norm ..........

Nowadays, we let the students have a longer rein Wink

I remember doing solo patterns and getting a call from the tower requesting I return to the apron immediately on the instruction of my CFI.

I was so engrossed in it I hadn't noticed the airport beacon come on signifying night time Smile
