Ive not parted with any money yet, but ive just sold my house and funds are becoming available. Prior to starting any course for the last year ive been reading the air pilots manual series and it seems relevent also ive indulged in principles of helicopter flight. am i in the right area? can anyone recommend any reading?

Hi Paddy,

Private Helicopter Pilot Studies by Phil Croucher (contains all PPL subjects)
Principles of Flight by Wagtendonk

I'd also recommend downloading the CAP413 from the CAA so you know about Radio procedures. It's free!

Maybe get a book about the type you're flying. There's a good little R22 guide you can get if you're flying the R22, or there are various others available for other types.

keep an eye on the Croucher stuff, weve been finding alot of problems with his professional helicopter pilot book. none the less WG is right there is a ton of good stuff in the Croucher, ide take a look for a book called "from the ground up" its a fixed wing book but has been my bible for anything aside from the heli theory of flight!

Logan

Are the problems due to differences in terminology ?

Phils books are pretty good and some of the most accurate I've seen. Nothing once you've written is ever seen as accurate by all. We base our exams over here on a book I have some serious reservations over (put mildly).

Some examples of what is wrong would be good.
