Hello,

Some may be aware, that Helitorque member, and NATS ATCO, AlanM had recently embarked on a Round the World Yacht race, on the vessel Cork Clipper.

I hear the news today, that their vessel was holed, after striking rocks in the Java sea, in the early hours the morning (local time) (last night, UTC), and is currently on its side. It appears all are safe, and have been rescued by two other race competitors; must be agonising for them to see their dream of racing around the world potentially terminated prematurely.

BBC Report - Sailors rescued near Java during clipper race
Guardian Report - Britons among 16 rescued from yacht near Java
Independent Report - Yacht race Britons rescued off Indonesia
BYM Sailing Report - Cork Clipper 68 damage assessed

Image of boat : Cork lies abandoned on its side after a catastrophic rock strike in the Java Sea around 200 nautical miles north east of Jakarta.

Also, this BBC video report, "featuring" Alan...
