I started to have a look around for helicopters in Fire/Rescue roles in the uk after guiness posted the "Londons Burning" clip in
"HELOS in Films and TV" and I came up with this article and a few more links. Is anybody here involved who would like to give us anymore information about what sort of response would be offered. Or has anybody got any thoughts at all.

Avon fire service could become the first fire brigade in the country to start using a Helicopter.

It would be used for 'non fire' emergencies, things like car accidents. The force say buying a new Helicopter at the cost of around 8 million pounds isn't possible, though a second hand aircraft could be picked up for around 1.5 million. With 800 thousand pound running costs per year it could still be cheaper than the current road based rescue units.

Chief Fire Officer Kevin Pearson told Heart 'We've always looked at delivering our services by road network and by lorries. We've been looking at the options to see if there is an alternative way, some of the figures we've seen suggest a helicopter could be more cost effective. 1.5 million pounds is expensive, with running costs of around 800 thousand pounds. But you have to compare that with what it costs us to provide the service in the way we do now. The four rescue tenders have a value of more than a million pounds and running them costs 2 million pounds per year. '
