I don't speak French, but it seems that Martin and Simon were involved!
Can anyone translate - please....

Edit:

RIP guys. Sincere condolences to both families Sad

This is very sad and shocking news for all of us, and a tragedy for their families.

There is slightly more detail here:

http://www.cagnes.maville.com/actu/actudet_-A-M-Tourrettes-sur-Loup-un-nouveau-crash-d-aeronef_dep-1617678_actu.Htm

Still in French.

The essence of it is they were "undoubtedly killed instantly", and witnesses saw a helicopter "with a backfiring engine" and (literally) "a rotor at half mast". A big search operation was mounted after contact was lost. As you can see from the pictures, the a/c came down in heavily wooded mountainous terrain.

Given that this is translated web journalism, it's hard to draw any meaningful conclusions, obviously.

I must say I am still stunned by the news, having spent literally hundreds of thrilling hours in the cockpit with Martin, and I am sure that everyone who knew both him and Simon will feel the same.

Tim

Oh goodness me. Sad I've just logged on this evening, and have seen this devastating news. Martin and Simon both very well known in the helicopter community, and both highly experienced pilots.

This is a utterly horrible time of year for accidents to happen, and, like Jane, my heart goes out to their families and vast network of friends who must be so..... ugh, words fail me. So devastated. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Of some tiny consolation to me, they died doing what they loved.
