Adam - You will find that the 480B is one of the smoothest helos out there. I used one as a camera ship when I did a shoot for Enstrom at dawn one morning and it was absolutely the smoothest helo I have used as a camera ship.
Yeah, I dare say is it REALLY smooth. I had some stick time in a 480, and it was really nice to fly as well. It was certainly nice for photography, although my only gripe was the sliding window in the door.....right where I needed to use the camera on a few occasions. But I can't complain.
WG, I would love to do a rating in the 480, but the price alone prohibits me. If things get better over the next year or so, I may well rate on it. You can get 5 people in it, so it's even better than the R44 in a lot of ways, and the cost isn't that much more.
The power in the machine is awsome.....we did a towering take off up to about 200ft before transitioning......truly amazing!!! I'd have been surprised to have got 80ft in an R22.
Someone told me this week that they are trying a small turbine in an R22 though, so you never know. Imagine an R22 with a turbine.....that would be cool!!!
As for the sites I go into......I find it so dull just flying to other airfields......frankly, you can do that in a fixed wing.....in fact that's about all you can do in a plank!
Flying helis for me is all about fun, and doing nice things.....and flying off for lunch somewhere is one of them. It helps to stretch the day out, and makes for a more interesting trip.
And there's nothing nicer than landing at a private site and being greeted at the heli and shown to your table. I'm not posh or stuck up, but it's a lovelly way to be treated.
