Just found this on another website:

Quote:
Vintage and Classic Day

Turweston Airfield, Nr. Brackley

Sunday 18th September, 2005

The event is an informal gathering of owners and enthusiasts for all things mechanical and will include vintage and classic motor cycles, cars, military vehicles, tractors, commercial vehicles and if the weather permits, a good selection of aircraft.

The airfield is situated 2.5 miles east of Brackley, can be accessed from A43 just North of the first Brackley exit and is clearly signposted to Turweston Airfield and Whitfield village.

Gates open 09:30

We were looking for somewhere to go next Sunday, and just wondered if anyone else was planning to attend this event. I've heard there will be bacon butties!! Very Happy

Subject to getting a heli, we're considering it as it's not too far from Wellesbourne.

I won't be able to make it, its my wedding anniversary but if anyone flies in they will be marshalled by Orange Arm Waver and Rotorwash etc. Its one of our big events in the year.

Always worth PPR'ing Turweston to check about rotary arrivals.

Booked a heli for midday on Sunday!

Just recieved a fax from Turweston Tower about helicopter arrivals. We have never been to Turweston before. Anybody got a picture of this "cabbage patch" we're supposed to land in?

WhirlyGirl Cool

P.S. Anyone care to join us for a bacon sandwich?

Cabbage patch is clearly marked on charts (certainly in Pooley's anyway). When I dropped in on my QXC, it was a fenced off area (possibly electric fence!) - I don't recall any cabbages though!! Wink Probably best approached from the south if you can.

Would have liked to have come; only 20 minutes for me but have never managed to get over to Turweston.

But I've already agreed with MrsRC that I'll help out with her "NCT Sponsored Toddle" on Sunday, so no bacon sarnies for me Crying or Very sad

Cabbage Patch is indeed marked in Pooleys ... it's where the H is marked on the AIP Plate for Turweston (South West corner).

Pooleys says the following:

Helicopter arrivals:

Approach from the east of the airfield 500m south of runway to grass area adjacent to the apron, then hover-taxi to the Cabbage patch.

Well there you go then - I should check these things first! Wink

From what I recall, we/I flew (with instructor first, of course) east abeam to make an approach from the south/south east - straight in to the Cabbage Patch. Certainly little/no hover-taxiing involved.

Unfortunately I had a call from Turweston today. Not good news. Crying or Very sad

They said that they've had to cancel all helicopter arrivals due to the "cabbage patch" being used as a car park. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Looks like we'll have to find somewhere else to go on Sunday. Sad

Have you got something sorted yet?

I'm flying Saturday afternoon; think I'll go to Leicester for coffee & cakes.

Yes, Sunday we're probably going to go to a local pub for a quiet lunch instead. They said there's no way we can go over to Turweston so we've made other arrangements. Weather permitting of course!

P.S. not around on Saturday unfortunately otherwise we might have joined you! Very Happy

The reason for cancelling your PPR apparently was due to noise measuring at the airfield otherwise it wouldn't have been a problem to have directed you actually on to the field...

The NIMBY's are causing the TW and the AC much grief with our events - last year we suffered becuase the events were not given the planning permission despite the recommendation by their (AVDC's) planning officer!!!

We await to see what will happen...
