Hey, Cap't blme got me a new Golf for Christmas Not quite the GTi version. Quite a story behind the buying of this new Golf Should have collected it on 23 Dec - wrong spec, so now have to wait until 29 Dec In the meantime, I do have a super dooper courtesy car - a top of the range sporty Golf
Other than that, the most important present is that I have a happy and healthy family, with a brand new edition

I was given a fantastic book "Hurricane Tim, the story of Sir Tim Wallis" Anyone with an interest in flying, especialy helicopters, will find this a fantastic, and very inspiring book. It is a truely remakable story of a very remakable man.
Sir Tim's fitting tribute

A fitting tribute has been paid to deer industry pioneer and aviation legend Sir Tim Wallis - a book has been written about his life.Hurricane Tim, written by Dunedin author Neville Peat, is the first book to chronicle the life of this extraordinary New Zealander. It details his years pioneering deer recovery using helicopters, and tells of the adventures Sir Tim embarked on both in the air and on the ground, the risks taken, those highly publicised close-calls, the adversities he has overcome and goals achieved.
Sir Tim, now 67, has always been an innovator. His companies were at the forefront of developments in New Zealand with helicopter venison hunting, then live-deer recovery, and ultimately deer farming.
Despite suffering a broken back in a 1968 helicopter crash - resulting in his left leg becoming paralysed - with the use of a calliper brace and dogged determination he taught himself to walk and fly again.In the hands of Sir Tim and his contemporaries, helicopters became deadly birds of prey. He rose to become well-known and respected among airborne deer hunters as a giant amongst the helicopter pilots.
The sky was his element. Like many of his companions he felt at home there.He became passionately addicted to this life, the intense joy of flying in the mountains and thrill of the chase.
Throughout his life he has been hugely generous to many causes - in both time and with money.
But it was not until he began collecting, restoring and flying classic piston-powered fighter aircraft, and staging the internationally acclaimed biennial Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow (the first in 1988), that the media took an interest in him and he became a household name.In 1993 he was knighted in recognition of his services to the deer industry and to the community.
However, a crash in his Mark14 Spitfire at Wanaka airport in 1996 has slowed the hurricane-like pace at which he lived his life. The serious brain injury suffered is undoubtedly the greatest burden he has ever had.
True to the nature of the man and his never-say-die attitude, the vital personality that has made him a larger than life character is still there despite his crippling injuries.Although he now speaks with slow, concentrated effort, there is no trace of desperation in his voice.???Once a reporter asked me how my business was going,??? Sir Tim says. ???I told him it???s not a business; it???s a game and that???s the way I want to keep it.???Sir Tim???s life is more circumspect now than in earlier days. He enjoys reminiscing with hunting cronies about their youthful exploits, and looking at what was achieved in transforming an erstwhile noxious animal into a multimillion-dollar industry. .
With 250 photos and 120,000 words, Hurricane Tim is a fitting tribute to Sir Tim Wallis???s remarkable life to date.
