Omega+ helmet from Comunica
Does anybody has experience with this helmet?

I'm looking to replace my SPH-4 and ran across this one surfing the web. Seems quite attractive pricewise and it's made in the UK. |

I notice there's a picture of the London Air Ambulance G-EHMS on that website link... I have flown in that heli and if they are they same helmets we were wearing then they seemed comfortable enough! Wouldn't be the best person to ask though, as I haven't really been able to compare it to any others.

So far nobody seems to use the Omega. I will get in touch with Comunica though (Tomorrow). So far they didn't respond to my email of last week.
I used the SPH-4 and the HGU-56 from Gentex. The SPH-4 was in my case more comfortable and the also less noisy. My biggest objection to the Gentex helmets; they're HUGE.
There are a couple of cheaper alternatives;

I have been using this helmet for some time and here are my thoughts on it:
Bad Points: [1] Fitting for size and shape of head is inadequate and effected by the insertion of 'pads' in certain areas to effect the best fit. [2] The helmet 'warms' up in use and becomes 'slack' and together with [1] above - cannot maintain security with the back of the head giving rise to a rotation fore/aft. It becomes loose after a time in flight so it can be rotated by shaking your head. [3] The visors are not positioned very well and the clear visor will fog up with beathing. [4] The tels lead is far too long. [5] The ear shell and helmet shell around it is too large if yo intend to wear this helmet in a 'narrow cabin' environment or one that has roof mounted controls/console. [6] Not suitable for use in a 206 since the helmet restricts head movement [comes into contact with the cabin frame in thee roof area] No I am not too tall [5' 10"]
Good Points: [1] Light and comfortable to wear. [2] Avionics are easily accessible for maintenance etc. [3] Mike is reliable and not prone to 'condensation' problems. [4] Volume control on earshell is good and effective.
My personal view is that I am not confident that this helmet would be the best option in the event of a crash. Not for me anyway. The only reason I have it is because I was issued with it. Not my choice.
I'd feel better off with one of these

simply because it can be fitted to individual head size/shape far more effectively. |

I went to talk to Comunica last week, and I bought a helmet. (actually my boss did). I used a couple of times last week, and I have to say it's great. It's very quit and the comms are crisp and clear. It's far better than my ANR headset. And it is NO comparison with the Gentex Helmets, I used both a SPH-4B and a HGU-56. The fitting is very good, but I have the exact size. I don't have to use pads this way. The double visors are Gentex, and work perfect (even better as on the Gentex!)
The helmet shell is an exact copy of the Gentex SPH4/5 series, the only thing Comunica changed is the made the earcup spacing a bit deeper, so they can fit their earcups.
All in all I'm very happy with it and sofar recommend it to anyone. |
