My first car was a Hillman Sunbeam Stiletto - in 1975!!!!! I thought I was the 'bees knees' driving around in that car. It was like 'doodah' off a shovel. It was was very similar to this piccy!!!!

Nothing wrong with VW's............gotta Golf now.....as you have seen James!!!
Another good car, believe it or not, and one that I did not want at all, but turned out to be fantastic was.....a FIAT Punto.... Stuck to the bends really well.........and it was quite sporty too!!!
Another car I always wanted though is an - Alfa Romeo Spider. New model or old - I don't mind!
No no, nothing wrong with VWs at all. High quality brand - well, all brands from VAG are of high quality now, really. (VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda... and probably more)
That second Polo though, was an odd one - it had had its gearbox replaced, and the one that was taken out had some kind of economy thing on it. The new one didn't really work quite as well. Oh, and the engine wasn't particularly good... twisted its manifold somehow.
Keep in mind, these weren't new vehicles at all; I imagine the problems I had with it, were about par for the course for vehicles of that age. _________________ J.
Ford Escort MK1 back in '77
Needed a lot of work...the MK1 front wings, sills and inner wings were susceptible to rust
Ran like a dream for 4 yrs and sold it for what I paid for it.
At leat in those days you could work on your own cars. _________________ heliaviator(Ian) PPL(H) R44
A Wolseley 15/60, painted matt black with flames on the bonnet. Brought it for 100 NZ dollars on Friday night at the pub, got it stuck on triple jumps at the local motocross track on Saturday, trying to impersonate the Dukes of Hazard, then rolled it Sunday afternoon doing some "off-road" racing on a local 4x4 forestry track.

Well I've already confessed to my Morris Marina in FF's thread, but after that cathartic experience I feel ready to share the details of my second car...
A 1978 S reg Vauxhall Cavalier 1600. A complete heap of s**t but I enjoyed it, even when the alternator started to go and I could make the whole car shudder just by flashing the headlights. I sold it to a guy in SE London and even saw it a couple of times driving around when I was at work.
Of course, that went when I got the Ford Capri... _________________ DBChopper
The Morris Marina!!! Crikey!!! What a car. It would look soooo boring now, wouldn't it?
As for the Ford Capri - trendy in it's day!!! The programme 'Sweeney' had the Ford Capri in it!!! My parents had a yellow Capri with the black vinyl roof!!!!!
After my Sunbeam Stiletto days, I went on to buy a Ford Escort Sport (with the black vinyl roof) ...........strange days weren't they _________________ TTFN

My first car back in '89 was a blue Ford Escort Mk3 1100 Popular.
A bit nerdy! But me and a mate drilled through the boot and installed an XR3i spoiler. And bolted some XR3i style driving lights on the front (but they wobbled a lot so you couldn't really have them on). And installed some XR3i style alloys. Wow, super nerdy now!!!
But the piece de resistance was a "TURBO" sticker. Once installed, the police pulled me over most evenings if I was out after 11pm.
Then someone slid into it in the snow (whilst I was sat inside it with the engine switched off!!!) and that was the end of that!
What was that car - the MAXI!!! Built, and driven, like a German tank!!!! I think it may have been a Hillman. Had the unfortunate experience of 'looking after it' for some poor ol' soul who had had a nervous breakdown (not surprised seeing as he owned the MAXI!!)
Hey Rotorcraig. Nothing wrong with an Escort. I have been the proud owner of a couple of Escorts in my past life!!!! They served me well!!! Reliable, cheap to run, easy to service....no, I don't mean men
And then, for my sins, I ended up with a Metro Someone kindly gave me a 'Cosworth' sticker for the back window
Now, thank goodness, I have redeemed myself I am now driving my second VW Golf
Yes, FF!!!! The one that was parked on my drive for yonks had a boot. It was a 'posh' looking old-fashioned frumpy sort of tank-like car......if a heat-seeking missile hit it I don't think it would have suffered too much damage!!! It was like 'one of those old dames with the rolling pin standing at the door' type of vehicle!!!!
Crikey And a boring colour to boot!!!!! _________________ TTFN

My first set of wheels was this 1962 Mini (850 body with Cooper S running gear including the rubber cone suspension). It was originally a crappy white colour, we had it stripped and resprayed, and had the motor rebuilt and bored out to 1327cc, hot cam, tuned length extractors and straight through exhaust:
Dad bought this car for me, and my sister now drives it. The first car I bought was the polar opposite of the Mini - a 1969 Buick Riviera, a massive 2-door boat with a 7.1L V8 and an interior that would look at home in a 70's porn flick.
Thar she blows:
After I bought that, Dad caught the Buick bug and I've since sold mine - he now owns three.
