Ah, Wozza, you beat me to it. I was just thinking about that..!

Sunset here is 1815, which opens up plenty more choices.

Any preference for airfield or private site (hotel, etc.)?

Nice & friendly place. Good facilities, and a cooked breakfast to see you through the weekend !! Very easy to find (NDB on airfield), and an interesting range of a/c there when we went

What about Shobdon Question EGBS

Certainly could do - despite at least one previous Helitorque gatherings at Shobdon, I've never quite managed to make it there.

One other thought that cross my mind was The Arrow.

Or Wozza, any suggestings for venturing north of the Midlands?

Sounds like a plan

About 170nm for me so will need to be good wx

Will have 2 spare seats so if someone wants to tag along I don't mind small diversion on route

I'll have to check the distance, but I wouldn't rule it out - certainly a great idea for a slightly further away summery type fly-in (and for the R44..). As heliaviator said, weather would have be usable!

Oh, and I'd have to buy new maps, too...! Wink

After consideration, I think that's a bit far for me for this month. (Not just weather/distance, but money considerations too. Sad )

When I suggested north of the Midlands, I was thinking perhaps the West/South Yorkshire area. Leeds/Sheffieldish. Foxy, have you any ideas, perhaps?

Okay, how about this for an idea:

EGCJ Sherburn-in-Elmet
http://www.sherburn-aero-club.org.uk/

Using very similar criteria to last time:
  • It's not too far away
  • It's easy to find (ever heard of the A1!!!) Wink (And umissable VRPs of Drax power station about 4 miles SW, and another power station 4 miles SE.)
  • It's an airfield
  • It's got fuel
  • It's got food, I think. Restaurant undergoing refurbishment set to open early March, according to the website. (Have dropped an email to them to enquire.)
  • It's most definately nowhere near the side of a mountain (elevation 26 feet AMSL)
  • It requires me to fly, rather than drive.
  • It's a bit nearer to Weekend Warrior.

Thoughts and comments?

Sherburn-in-Elmet is a lovely airfield - friendly ATC, and great cafe/restaurant from what I remember (haven't been up that way for a while!!!).

Sounds like a 'GOOD PLAN' to me Wink Wink

Note to Rotorcraig: Are you still in ''prehistoric internet mode??' or have you joined 'the modern world of internet' after your house move???? And, are you going to join us on 19 March - weather permitting of course!!! By the way RC, you would have enjoyed Dallas HAI Wink

SANDTOFT
It's ideal for me.
My sister lives in Woodhall Spa and has been nagging me for a trip in hover for a while now; so I can kill two birds with one stone.
