Some of you may have read this elsewhere but if you are looking for somewher to flyin to we'd like to encourage yourselves and anyone else reading this thread to pay us a visit on the 24th June 2006. On the 24th Wolverhampton (Halfpenny Green) is playing host to Project Propellor (see http://www.projectpropeller.co.uk/ for info) which basically aims to is to match up WWII RAF air crew with current pilots and to gather together for a day at a significant location. Whilst project propellor will have their own speakers, lunch etc we are hoping to attract general visitors and plan to have a few attractions at the airport. Although details havent been finalised yet we are hoping to have items on display from cadets, vintage/miltary/steam vehicles on display, trade stalls, bouncy castle etc. The cafe ok will be open as normal but we should also have a BBQ's on the go along with the fully licensed bar for the non aircrew !! Unfortunately this event has to be self funded, ie we have to pay for the extra loos etc so we are unable to offer many concesions but on the plus side, if we do raise any surplus then consideration will be given to some of the local charities, air scouts, cadets, air ambulance etc. To try to add an air of nostalgia for the ex aircrew members that will be attending through Project Propellor, and also to try to add a bit of variety at EGBO on the day, we have managed to secure one concession, any militarry marked aircraft or helicopters, current / historic / overseas marks etc will not have to pay a landing fee. More information will be available soon, and I will try to keep you posted on any updates, confirmed attendances etc.

(If any of you want to stay in the are overnight and use Wolverhampton as a base for a trip on the Sunday, say into Wales ther is local accommodation available at a number of locations - contact us for further details)

In short...
24th June 2006
EGBO Wolverhampton Airport (Halfpenny Green)
Fly In
3 Hard Runways plus the unlicencesed 350m grass strip should also be operational.
Free landing fees for any military marked aircraft.
Single engine aircraft, multi engined engined aircraft, helicopters and three axis microlights welcome.(Sadly we cannot accept flexiwing's at the moment)
Ground attractions
A good, fun day out.

PPR is not essential but would be preferred if possible.

If you require any further information, please head up an email with Wolverhampton Fly In and forward to either ATC@wolverhamptonairport.co.uk or Perspective.i@btopenworld.com. We would love to update a list of possible attending aircraft types.

Thanks for reading.

Sounds good - we will certainly keep that weekend in mind. (I will now go and write it on our calendar Smile And, we may have to book overnight!!! Usually do!!!! I will consult the HeliTorque team pronto........

Also, I could incorporate that with my birthday (15th!)

(Halfpenny Green has always sounded better than Wolverhampton International!!! don't you think!!!)

Note bene: If you could recommend accommodation details - that would be a great help Smile Cheers!!

There are two options close to Halfpenny Geen, the first is Blakelands which is actually on the boundary of the airfield (some helicopters overnight in their paddock) take a look at http://www.blakelands.com/ or there is the Red Lion in Bobbington which has had a hotel extension built onto it http://www.redlioninn.co.uk/

The latter is about a mile from the airfields main gate, but generally if you book with them and tell them you are travelling to the airport they will usually offer to pick you up (especially if you gently ask them)... If not Im sure one of us from the airfield should be able to offer a lift.

Alternatively we may be able to arrange camping on the airfield although the facilities will be a bit sparten, toilets, basins but no showers.

Would be great to see some of the helitorque members paying us a visit, and hopefully with plenty to take a look at etc.

Pm me if you want more info about the accommodation, I couldnt possibly make my views public lol.

That weekend was mountain flying trip in Wales last year so it may be that if same dates are used this year we could drop in on the Saturday when we've had enough of scaring ourselves silly in the mountains Exclamation

Ian,

Visitors are of course welcome any time. But we'd obvioulsy like to make your visit more interesting so if you are able to drop in on that date it would be great. (landing fees are also reduced if you take fuel..)

Forgot to mention generally, if any of you folks do decide to stop overnight, there will be a licensed bar on the airfield open for the days activities.

I'll keep you all updated of any news / updates as we get them.

Cheers
Paul.

Minor update, but if any of you want to camp on the airfield, you will be more than welcome but we dont have any shower blocks !!!! Laughing

If you do decide to pay us a visit and stop on the Saturday night, Ive just had it agreed that there willbe no overnight parking fees for aircraft / helicopters visiting the fly in. We are hoping to get some balloons in to launch at the end of the day (the hot air variety) there should hopefully be a parachute drop and a band playing to round the day off.
