well this is all good info, but when i talked with my instructor apparently when the military buys these things they assume all maintainance responsibilities and all. so i guess we opperate buy our own rules. lmao this makes me sooo pleased that im flying this thing but to be honest the installation i am at has a very good maintance facility and conducts maintaince all the time.

We've all heard and read about the very sad accident involving the b206 pipeline patrol cab which lost it's vertical fin, killing the crew.
I received the official CAA document only yesterday resultant from the AAIB investigation. It states that during the next 100-hour inspection, the vertical fin must be inspected for loose securing bolts.
Oh yeah - Inspect it NOW dear people!!
I spoke to my engineer over the phone (Thanks Mr Massey) and suggested that it would be prudent to do the inspection ASAP as we've just recently had a 100 check.
As I was obviously concerned, he asked me to use a 7/16th ring spanner and see if I could turn any of the bolts in question.....
Guess what? All four were loose
For crying out loud - please check the bolts NOW!!
The result of excessive ground handling....I have always hated the pressures submitted every single time we do this. I broke my back trying to hold the beast...tail cat...hmmm bad idea...counter weights better idea...be gentle. bug 'report' copy right
Very interesting thread this. A few years ago my father was flying over lake Victoria in Tanzania with a B206L when the vertical fin teared in the middle causing it to fold over. Luckily away from the tailrotor. This caused quite a vibration which they didn't know where it came from. Only when they landed about 30min later and inspected the helicopter did they see what happened. The top half of the vertical fin was hanging next to the bottom half.
I'll have to look for the pictures and scan them in as soon as I'm back home to show you what it looked like. Quite interesting.
