What is the likelyhood of them doing a parachute drop on that day do you think? The hotel told me they have never had any problems with people getting permission to land in there before. As I've never flown into a danger area, presumably we'd have to contact RAF Weston-On-The-Green. Do you know how much notice you have to give?

Ok, so they are constantly dropping people out out of planes over there. It's H24, so does that mean you cannot go in there no matter what, or can they actually grant you permission? I think this place is near to the edge of D129 (assuming it's a 2 mile radius), but none the less it looks like it's inside. I downloaded the UK airspace for google earth as well, and according to that it is just inside.

Reading the blurb at the bottom of the CAA 1:250 000 chart:
Quote:
DANGER AREA ACTIVITY INFORMATION SERVICE (DAAIS) is available for certain Danger Areas shown on this chart ...
Pilots are advised to assume that a Danger Area is active if not reply is received from the appropriate NATSU ...
D129 ......... BRIZE RADAR 124.275 Mhz
Trevor Thom says in Air Law
Quote:
Prohibited Areas
A Prohibited Area is defined airspace in which flight is prohibited.
Restricted Areas
A Restricted Area is defined airspace in which flight is restricted according to certain conditions.
Danger Areas
A Danger Area is defined airspace in which activities dangerous to flight may occur.
... and then references AIP ENR 5.1 which is a list of these areas.
So my take on all this (which could be wrong?) is that you are not prohibited from going in, but should speak with Brize Radar first to establish that it is safe to do so.
Only just picked up this thread. Have been at Kemble all weekend.
Weston Manor is just up the road from me. If you get any probs flying in there on Monday let me know and I'll drive up there and take some photos of the landing site.
blme and WhirlyGirl have just flown down to Weston Manor Hotel and taking aerial photos as well as checking out the landing site. They should be back within the next half hour!!
Not sure if I can make the dinner but will come up to say hello to all during the day as its only 20 ish miles up the road.
Should know for sure by the end of the week.
