An idea that I'd mooted to a couple of folks at recent Helitorque events, is to have a monthly Helitorque Fly-in.

I don't mean to get in the way of any bigger events - like the Christmas do, or perhaps a bigger summer event (like Barnsdale). But more to fill in the gaps, on a lower key. Something along the lines of the proposal for Nottingham next Month.

Because it's a monthly event, then it doesn't matter if you can't make one, make the next one instead! Also, it means we can visit different parts of the country.

Good idea or not?

Need a calendar then:

February - 19th, Nottingham
March - Question
April - 30th Abingdon
May - Question
June - Question
July - 28th-30th Weston Helidays
August - Question
September - Question
October - Question
November - Question
December - Christmas Bash...!

Thoughts and ideas gratefully received.

I'd like to fly down to the South West sometime this year - my parents live near Yeovil, so it would be interesting to explore that idea. Catwoman keeps saying we should visit Coppleridge. And I *STILL* haven't made it to Lake Vyrnwy.

Wouldn't mind going to the Isle of White sometime, or even Le Touquet! (being a bit adventurous now!!)

I think it's a great idea to make some plans - need to make sure we explore as much of the country as possible!! Smile

Two possible ideas for a fly in this year.

The Popular Flying Association is holding their annual flying for fun rally at Kemble on friday 18th to sunday 20th August.
Although mostly geared around planks they do welcome helicopters there.

Also if anyone fancies the Isle of Wight, Bembridge airport is hosting the 2006 Schneider trophy. Provisional dates are weekend 2nd and 3rd September.

Any objections or persuasions on the dates Wozza's mentioned?

As a working proposal, how's this for a calendar? I've tried to get the dates to work out to be at least one flight every four weeks (for currency!). I've gone for Sundays of a weekend, but I've no objection to a Saturday.

The Calendar:
Edited for "Plan-B"; see below

February - 19th, Nottingham
March - 19th fly-in
April - 9th fly-in; 30th Abingdon
May - 27th fly-in
June - 18th fly-in
July - 9th fly-in 28th-30th Weston Helidays
August - 25th-28th Summer Fly-in
September - 17th fly-in
October - 14th fly-in
November - 12th fly-in
December - Christmas Bash...! (What about 9th/10th December?)

WW

How could we POSSIBLY have a HeliTorque get-together without you! And Mrs Woz of course!!!

Your dates have been noted Wink

The main summer fly-in weekend will HAVE to fit in with your available dates! We will discuss on 19 Feb at Tollerton - over the lunchtime curry Wink

Will send you a PM also Smile

Regards

A possible contender for an August Fly-in would be the Today's Pilot Fly-In to be held at Nottingham Tollerton on Sunday August 27th. There were some helicopters there last year.

Don't forget the (kind) suggestion of having an MD500 day at Dunkeswell.

I was looking at the 'proper' map yesterday (instead of my AA gazetteer) and it suggests parachuting at Dunkeswell - should be good for some non straight-and-level flying!
First up I think we must ask when we can go, for availability of machines and how many of us will make it - Summertime will give us more flying hours but either we need more rated pilots with us or Mr. H500 is going to be very busy!

Can we have a proposal of a suitable set of dates and following that, a show of hands?

And let us not forget...

This could be the moment of weakness!

Following Wozza's Plan-B, I've rejigged the calendar slightly:

The Calendar

February - 19th, Nottingham
March - 19th fly-in
April - 9th fly-in; 30th Abingdon
May - 27th fly-in
June - 17th fly-in; 30th-3rd July Summer Fly-In
July - 28th-30th Weston Helidays
August - 27th Today's Pilot Fly-In, Nottingham
September - 23th fly-in
October - 15th fly-in
November - 12th fly-in
December - Christmas Bash...! (What about 9th/10th December?)

I've pencilled 27th August in to be the Today's Pilot fly-in.

Just as an idea for Dunks, how about we look to have the Summer Fly-in in the South West, somewhere; possibly as a long weekend, and we take one of the days to drop in?

Either that or make it the May or June fly-in.

Wozza, I know it's months away - your availability for December suggests just 3rd - when are we going to have a Christmas Bash?!?
