Please - when posting any event like this (or any event at all), just sticking up "Helitech 2005" followed by "Anyone going?" isn't enough!

WHERE is it?
WHEN is it?

OK, I leapt off into the unknown of a HT Diary, found it and eventually got back here (Sept 27/28/29) but I think those details should appear in Forums when being discussed to avoid the many steps I had to go through to find it.. Still don't know where.

Sorry Flying Foxy, and everybody!

It was a spur of the moment thought and I only had about 1 minute before my session to post the message! I just wondered if anybody was planning to go.

Anyway, the event is up on the HeliTorque Calender here. Here are the full details:

Date: 27th-29th September 2005
Location: Imperial War Museum Duxford, near Cambridge, UK
Website: http://www.helitech.co.uk/

I have never been before and would really like to attend. I fancy flying over there. Will probably do so as part of my hour building as it's in September and I will hopefully be qualified by then!

Not sure which day yet, will decide closer to the time.

Bye for now!

I only asked now becuase I have just been on the website and registered to attend. I wasn't sure whether you could just turn up - it looks like you need to say you're attending in advance...

Seem to remember that you can register when you arrive but don't quote me on it!

In previous years I ve had a mailshot from them with the registration form in.

Been to the previous two Helitechs. Its not big but it is good. You also get free entry into the air museum.

Technically it's a trade only show so when you register you may need a company name or use the flying schools name. Never saw anyone get turned back of course.

A few schools are there and plenty of commercial companies, manufacturers, etc. Gives a good flavour of the industry. Recommended for any up and coming pilots.

I will be going, probably on the Wednesday.

I'll be there!

I flew the R22 there last time. It's easy to find and well run & marshalled, but be prepaed for a long wait if you need fuel (unless things have improved since). There is plenty to see round the exhibition, but watching the arrivals is just as much fun, and being one of a line of some 30+ helicopters was an experience. All crew are picked up and ferried across the airfield by a fleet of small buses. The free entry to the museum is a major bonus of course, so it all makes for a great day out.

Only one thing to add....you do need to book in advance, as it's strictly PPR, and you will be given a 15 or 30 minute time slot to arrive in. Outside those times, they won't let you in, so be warned. This is because of the sheer amount of movements.

I went two years ago, and there were over 100 whirlies there.

If you look like you've got money and show interest in buying a lovelly machine you can get a free demo ride....you have to be a true blagger though, unless you're rich. I wouldn't dare, but I know people who have.

There were about 20 static display machines, including an SAR S61, a few MD explorers, and a few of the really new
eurocopters.

I'll certainly be going though, so if anyone wants to share the trip, let me know. I'll be flying from somewhere near Dartford.

Maybe we should all aim to arrive on the same day and meet up for a coffee or beer in the bar there.

Why not try and make one of the nights Heli Tech is on, as a Heli Torque get together.
