Well I've just made my decision - binned the R22 in favour of the Vauxhall Astra as I don't like the look of those winds and the nasty wet stuff behind it.

Bummer... Sad

See you all there though.

I've already decided on the VW Passat for transport on the basis I don't have a PPL. Hopefully will be established on long finals for Duxford on the A505 sometime just after 9am.

Have a friend going in the car with me who will try and register while there.

Those going Thursday see you there, will call by the heli ops stand to say hello. Maybe meet for a coffee.

See you all there.

All the way there in the superb sunshine I was wondering if I had made the right decision to cancel the slot and drive. On the way back sitting in the jam on the A14 to get onto the M1 in the gusting winds and pouring rain I knew I had.

Good day out though did not meet any of you.

I was wondering too, about the weather, but decided that we needed to be home by around 1500-1600 to avoid it. After attempting to leave at 1450 or so, it was 1750 when we finally got out. Best laid plans, eh? It wasn't that bad actually - certainly not unflyable, just not a lot of fun.

Great show, lots of helicopters and associated "bits" to look at - could easily loose myself there for a couple of days I think.

(Thanks again to BLME for the assistance!)

Well I was gutted about my no-fly decision! Evil or Very Mad

The forecast front seemed to be hours behind its expected ETA (what happened to Duxford being hot on arrival times? Wink ) and I would have been fine flying there and back. Still, as I said during the day, better to be on the ground looking up at clear blue skies and wanting to be flying than in the clag at 700' looking down and wanting to be on the ground.

It was good to meet Mr & Mrs Whirly and Heli-Ops; it wasn't so good to pay ??22 for two portions of chicken & ham pie and two teas, but I guess it compensated for not paying a few hundred squiddleys on flying instead... Rolling Eyes

Hi everyone!

Nice to meet you all at HeliTech! Flying down was MUCH better - no traffic jams, no getting lost en-route! It was a bit blustery on the way back (ground speed of 53kts at one point in the R44!) but the weather caused no real problems and we didn't leave until around 1630. Mind you, if blme hadn't been in the other seat I might have thought twice about flying yesterday. All good experience. Smile

Did you all pick up a copy of the new HeliOps magazine? Isn't it fantastic!

Today was better....more helis parked up, and a B17 flight to entertain us. Very nice! The only one left flying now, and this one will be taken out of service next year, as the insurance will be put up to some ridiculous figure, and they can't afford to fly it. What a shame!

Such a slow and graceful machine, but with such power, not just in the engines, but in it's looks.

Shame the EC225 wasn't there today. However, we got a rare fly-by from the Huey (restored)....the noise was awsome! Hardly describable.

A very enjoyable day for all, a very odd route avoiding traffic delays, made long final at about 10.30am.

True Adam, nice to see the Sally B B-17 and also Carolyn Grace's Spitfire, a few nice high speed passes by that .

A high speed reasonably low pass by the Warks and Northants A109 Air ambulance. One chappie stood watching the departure said there best scramble time was an incedible 40 seconds, from hitting the starter to wheels off the ground. Whatever happened to warm up time.
Guess thats the Pratt and Whitney engines. I thought the A109's all had Allisons, anyone know when the change happened.

Was the G- DPPF Welsh police A109 in the static display on tuesday and wednesday?? There seemed to be a large gap behind the S92 by the Bell 47.

Did anyone else try Cuesim's explorer simulator, I must say the bit between takeoff and landing was the best for me.

Must agree the food inside was a bit extortionate, we ate in the museum coffee shop outside.

Already looking forward to Helitech 2007!!

The Huey was in the open space in the static area on Tuesday. On thu, they put it out on the pan ready for the fly-by (and I presume the return to it's base).

Well worth going on Thursday just to hear it go off.

As it descended and flew by, it honestly felt like a tommy gun going off right by your chest...the noise was incredible.

You can really understand why the Veitnamese absolutely crapped themselves when they heard that noise. And oddly enough, it only seemed to be audible at it approached, but not from behind as it departed....but I guess that in the climb, the blade slap dissapears.

DB Chopper...

If you wish you can also upload HeliTech pictures to our HeliTech gallery which is now online!

That goes for anybody else who has some good pics to contribute to the gallery!

James & WhirlyGirl - thanks for the link.

I should have thought to stick 'em in the gallery in the first place. They are now duly added (by the way folks - the new upload feature is peasy to use, even for me, so well done!).

Smile
