Hi there, may be a bit of a stupid question, but is it worth buying an R22 to offset the costs of hour building? Would any school be willing to lease it from me, so that way they'd take care of all the maintenance etc and then i'd only have to pay for fuel whenever i wanted to fly...has anyone else dipped their fingers in this area before?

It depends on what part of the world you are located. I would strongly advise you to do lots of homework on this one. You will find it difficult to get a school (in JAR land) to pay all maint and still allow you to fly aircraft for just fuel cost, dont forget who will pay for the insurance, certification costs, pre purchase surveys etc.
beware of promises of loads of hours by schools which are most likely struggling to make ends meet in present climate.
An old addage in aviation, "if it flys, floats or f***s.....rent it!"
I know many people who say the 2nd happiest day of their lives was the day they bought their heli, the happiest being the day they sold it.
That said,, you could find a cheap r22 which low callender time left and do a buyback deal on the hull, but again, do your homework well before you part with any cash.
Good luck regards and apologies if I come across a little negative
