The slots for Silverstone will probably go quickly again this year. It was full about three weeks before the event.

We are working at Turweston for the overflow and the overland transfer, so please let me know if anyone is going to be landing at Turweston instead of Silverstone.

Hughes 500, are we likely to see Oscar Alpha at Turweston again this year for the GP.

Having liaised with Thruxton Karting we have discovered that the 50% deposit for their "Grand Prix" days is non-refundable. This could be very expensive in the event of bad weather, which is not uncommon on helicopter trips, as you know!

The best option (as the lady explained, the helicopter club did it once), is to turn up to their "arrive and drive" sessions, which cost 20 for 15 minutes of track time, and no deposit is required, so nothing lost if we don't turn up due to weather. These however are on specific dates, namely week days, which might not suit all, but I don't think the risk of losing a deposit for a weekend event is very appealing.

What do you all think? The next arrive and drive sessions with afternoon slots available are taking place on July 8th and 15th, both of which are Tuesdays. Anybody interested?

Sarah

Both OK with me at the mo.
I'm only an hour away by road so could do it with half day leave.

Unless of course there are any Jet Rangers passing Didcot.

Finally made a decision on the date!

Friday 15th August, 11.00am

As it's summer holidays, 10 deposit per person required to book in (non-refundable but that's the chance we take with the weather - if you didn't want to lose it you could always drive).

So far we have 7-8 people going from Coventry, but the more the merrier - it would be great to catch up with some Helitorquers. Track time is a minimum of 15 minutes - you can have longer if you feel like paying extra. Should be a good day out and it's a licenced airfield if anybody wants to come along and bring their students.

You need to call the Thruxton Karting Centre (01264 882231) to reserve a place (tell them you're with the helicopter group for the 11am session).

Any ideas for nice places to fly to and get something to eat in the afternoon? Post on this thread if you've decided to come along.

Sarah

We have 7 definites so far and an additional 5 or 6 who have booked provisionally.

If you'd like to come along please call the karting centre on 01264 882231 and speak to Jenny. You can leave a 10 deposit for a guaranteed race spot, or alternatively turn up on the day on spec (at a risk of not getting a karting slot).

This is going to be a lot of fun so the more the merrier (lap times will be recorded for the competitive types amongst you!!). It would be helpful to the Karting centre if you could let them know that you're part of the helicopter group for 11am on the 15th. This way they can plan to get enough karts out.

Hope to see you there! Any questions feel free to ask!

Sarah

Those who are coming along tomorrow, look forward to seeing you. We might be dropping into Kemble for a spot of lunch afterwards, if anyone wants to stop by and have up cup of tea. I think there are at least 11 of us going now...

Just got back from an enjoyable day Karting at Thruxton. It was good to meet up with other Helitorquers and also the guys from Helicentre .

My arms are still aching now, hope you had a good flight to Kemble and flight back to Coventry.

Thanks to Whirlygirl for organising the event.

See you all at the next event

Thanks to everyone who came along! Whirlyguy and myself had a great time and although I'm rather bruised, Karting was good fun - more brutal than I expected but hey. I would definitely do it again but I don't think I'll give up my day job - flying helicopters is much more my thing! Smile

Had a lovely lunch at Kemble too. Very enjoyable. Good to see everyone. Might have some photos if you're lucky... Smile

Well here they are, just a small selection, but all I've had time to edit for now.

Enjoy!
