Happened yesterday.

After about 3 hours flying in total yesterday (Wasn't it a lovely day?) I dropped off my pax rotors running. Lifted to about 1000', a quick run around the cockpit and I actually saw the oil pressure gauge creep skywards to max.

Low pressure I can understand....Get it on the ground asap but high pressure?

Thinking it through for a second I reduced power which in turn reduced the pressure. Increased the power and it went back to max. Oil temp was fine as was N1 Confused

Anyway... Put it on the ground as a precautionary and gave the machine a good check over. No leaks (I didn't expect any but would have done with low pressure warning)...

A quick call to the duty spanner man - we went through the scenario bit by bit and came to the same conclusion....

Any idea's peeps? Wink

Is this a trick question? Confused

Are we talking about the JetRanger?

No trick question - aimed at Turbine jocks (and Piston I suppose).

A "food for thought" question....

Yep - B206 Wink

That's initially what I thought Wink

Turns out to be nothing more than a dodgy clock!
According to a very very influential engineer (Thanks Mr Mic) the oil pressure on the Allison system can't ever exceed upper limitations (of the higher scale) unless you physically get out your spanner and adjust it to do so yourself (highly unlikely in flight of course Wink ).

In the extremely unlikely event - the worse that can happen is the labyrinth seal (s) blow, the engine looses oil, the pressure drops and you'd land it anyway.

It was something that made me think quite hard at the time, that I thought I???d pass on to you guys in case it ever happened.

That was my second thought but decided it was too obvious! Then the fact you said N1 was OK I was unsure but didn't get chance to repost before being dragged off to do the nags...

Seem to recall something about the pressure tracks the N1 reading with a faulty valve?

We learn something new every day don't we?

Obvious when it's thought through - not so obvious when you see the needle creeping up the scale!

Say "Hello" to Malcom Purcell for me PW Cool

(I'll take a chance that he's your farrier on the Island, as there's only two the last time I hunted over there) Wink

I was with the I.O.W Hunt for 12 seasons travelling across every Tuesday and every other Saturday. Nearly bought a farm there (wish I had now).

Great place to live Wink

Yep she knows him and used to use him but he wasn't so keen on the problem horses she seemed to take in!

I wish you'd brought a farm here too - could do with a landing site! Wink

Smile I ve never met him myself but think he is getting on and has enough easy work to turn the more difficult ones away!

Where's his farm? Theres a guy at Binstead who has a private strip and doesn't charge for it's use either - does appreciate a bottle of wine every so often apparently.. not that I ve had a chance to avail of it so far due to tech problems, lack of ??????, etc Sad

Update....... Confused

My machine has just come out of service. I asked the engineer to "have a looksee" to make sure nothing was wrong that could have caused the high pressure scenario, afterall it was only the dial wasn't it?

Was'nt it?

Oh, it wasn't Shocked Great!

Turns out to be a "blockage" in the high pressure oil feed line Evil or Very Mad You know - the hoses that they check every so often to make sure they arn't er, blocked.
