I'm not going to be of ANY help in giving you the answer, but I'll ask a few more questions and see if that helps.
Is this really important to you as an R22/44 flyer or just as a random question? I ask that because if you fly these machines you should be able to find what you need in the flight manual (maybe).
If there's not enough detail there (after all, do you REALLY need to know where the wigit for oil pressure/temp attaches as a pilot...are you a pilot..can't tell from your profile) go chat with the boys and girls who fix the machines. Not only will they love the fact that you've come to chat, but they'll probably be delighted to show you their baby in all its glorious details...these are the people who will have the answer for you.
Hkmm. No help at all, but my handy "Robinson R22: A Pilot's Guide" book says this:
The oil temperature gauge mounted in the cockpit is electrically operated and measures the temperature from a sender unit in the engine, a separate pressre sender unit and electrical circuit is connected to the low oil pressure warning light.
Guess you might have done this already, but probably worth trawling around on Lycoming's website for maintenance guides to the engine...? _________________ J.
mastercylinder - Yes I am a pilot (though not doing a great deal of flying at the moment, unfortunately!). It's not really important but it was just one of those niggling questions, the answer to which might help in understanding how everything works a bit better. Talking to an engineer or looking it up in the POH is not an option right now hence the posting. I'll certainly get on the case if I don't get my answer elsewhere.
James - I'll have a look at the Lycoming site when I have a moment... I'd forgotten that I had had that idea too!
