Hi,

I've added three ew events to the diary today. These are:

HCGB Helicopter World Championships, practice day and UK final dates.

Blue Eagles Helicopter Display Team show at Duxford, although I think this is sold out.

Festival of Speed, Goodwood/Chichester, fantastic day with about 100 helis in attendance each year.

Have a scan through the event diary.

Adam.

Thank you Adam! The events you submitted are now on the calendar!

What is the festival of speed all about? I have never heard of it before - have you been?

Hi,

I did put info about it in the event calendar, but here it is again, below.

The festival of speed is a three day event, you've only got the first date in the diary. I thought I'd added a note about this.

I also added the dates for the world champs, but that one doesn't seem to have gone through. Did it get lost in the system somewhere?

The festival of speed is a fantastic event to attend by helicopter.

The event is held at Goodwood racecourse, by Goodwood/Chichester airfield.

If arriving by helicopter, there is a free executive shuttle car to take you into the event.

Tickets are about ??20, and the event is on for three days, with ground and air shows throughout.

The ground displays include fast bikes, Formula One cars, the Whacky Racers, and many more.

Nearly 100 helis in attendance each year. You will need to book an arrival slot with the airfield in advance.

I will personally most certainly be going to this event on the Sunday, which is the best day.

Adam.

Hi Adam,

Sorry I did read your event submissions but didn't notice it was a 3 day event. It is now on the calendar on all three days!! It sounds great - I will see what we are doing, but our summer is quickly becoming packed full of events so we'll let you know if we're coming. If we do it probably will be on the Sunday, as that's our day off!

Cool....we should find out who's going, and arrange to meet somewhere, even if it's just for a quick coffee before going back to the noisy stuff! Smile

Could we set up a forum section called EVENT ATTENDANCE, specifically for the purpose of just posting a quick note to day you're going? With a note to say that discussions about events should only take place in the events section?

This would be an easy workaround for the other thing I mentioned on the Flyer site, and would be very easy to do.

I find at the moment you have to trawl through all the posts to see who's going, which is tiresome.

Please....pretty please Smile

Adam.

I will work on it Adam, I promise, but I've got a HUGE workload on at the moment so just bear with me!! Smile

I will get around to it as soon as I can but I have to find a fix which will link to the calendar we use at the moment, otherwise it's a case of starting again and that's a lot of programming!

Talk to you soon!!

What I was thinking for now was just a new Forum Topc, nothing else. And put some notes on it to tell people to ONLY submit attendance details to it, no chat or gossip or anything.

Then we can just put up and event as a post, and let people reply to say they're coming.

In the meantime, we would also post the events to the calendar too, just for the record.

I believe that adding a new topic in the forum is only a few clicks in the admin section....is that right?

Adam.

Hi Adam,

Yes anyone can put up a new post, but if you like I can post it up as a sticky so it always stays at the top. Did you mean a separate topic for each event, a combined topic with all event attendance lists or a new forum all together?

Like "Helicopter Events" is a topic and "Torque, Chat and Chill", I'm suggesting a new one, underneath the Helicopter events one, called "Event Attendance".

Someone like me would go in and put up a new post for the event, with all the details and links to sites etc.

Then attendees would simply go in and put a single line of text as a reply saying "I'm Attending" or "put me down for this" etc.

But in the description for the Topic, we put "Please indicate your attendance to each event by replying to say you're attending. Discussions about each event should only take place in the other topics, this one is purely to indicate attendance."

Then what you get is a thread that lists who is going, and none of the other rubbish we all talk about. this means that to see who's going, you don't have to trawl through all of the replies to pick out the bits where people say they're going.

And it also means that people don't have to manually maintain a list, like someone is doing for rutland, which then needs manually updating by them too.

Feel free to call me about this if you're still a little stuck. I'm not always the best at describing things.

Adam.

I'll be at the Brits this year and hopefully the Worlds, if selected. I have competed in the last two Brits and had a fantatastic time, not to mention meeting some great aviation minded types. It is probably the only event I have taken part in (including airshows!) where you can talk about aviation without being branded an Anorak or Spotter!

I hope to see you all, including enthusiasts and competetors, at Heythrop Park.

Regards,

Helidriver Cool

Helidriver, would I be correct is saying that Suday is the best day for going, as the saturday is all Nav, and most helis will be off-site doing the nav?

Weather permitting Navex will be the first event on the Saturady AM with the Precision flying event Saturady PM.

Sunday AM Fender event followed by Slalom PM and prize giving around 1630.

Pilot flight information for anyone wishing to flyin will be avialble on the HCGB we site in the next week.

If you flew in last year do not land in the same helicopter parking area. You must have 2005 flight information.

PM if you have not recieved the flight information by the weekend of the Championships.

Adam, Alan has all the info, but from a photo perspective all the best shots came from Sunday not to mention you will see aircraft flying the whole day, so an aviation enthusiasts heaven! You will probably be 100 m away from the activity and situated on the west side so mid day and pm the best for shots on a sunny day. I used to be a Photographer before "joinng the mob!" Cool

I ill be going on the Sunday then, and try to get there early. I won't be filming the event officially, but will make sure I get some shots, and possibly some video too.

Adam.
