Hi,

on another forum that I participate in occasionally (though nowhere near as much as this one) they have a seoftware facility called TeamSpeak, where users with headsets can chat to one-another online, live, instead of using the keyboard to chat.

It works really well, and they also occasionally have tuition on there too, for things like RT and stuff, done by instructors.

All you need is a PC headset, or speakers and a microphone in order to use it.

You can use one of your keyboard keys as a PTT key, or set it to voice activation. Any amount of people can talk at once, which is a neat feature, and a light comes on against whoever is talking at the time.

Check this out on the site I use, and see what you think. don't stay in there too long though, they'll want you to join Smile

For the site administrators....this is so easy to install, and takes very little resources to run. Single server use for up to 25 simultaneous users is only $30 !!!!! Details at www.goteamspeak.com

Another thing they do is pipe Tower and APP radio through it too, for people to listen to, although this requires more equipment.

Check out the PilotPortal one in action:

Paste the following link into your browser and install the client.

ftp://ftp.freenet.de/pub/4players/teamspeak.org/releases/ts2_client_rc2_2032.exe

connect, and insert the server address of: pilotportal.net

Leave the login as anonymous, and connect.

You will be taken in to the main room.

If anyone tries to talk to you, just send a message saying you're just checking it out, and can't talk. To do this, go to CHANNELS menu > SEND TEXT MESSAGE TO ALL

This will pop up in the window at the bottom, which all users will see.

I know it sounds a bit complicated, but once you've got it up and running, if we install it on here, it's a fantastic piece of software, and really bring the "club" to life.

See what you think.

Adam.

Hi Adam,

Do you think this software run through the HeliTorque server or does it run through TeamSpeak? It's just that something like that would take up a huge amount of bandwidth!

Secondly, the link to the .exe you posted will work on PC's but will be a problem for Mac users. Sad

Could you send me the link to Pilot Portal so I can look into it?

The TeamSpeak thing doesn't use a lot of bandwidth at all, I don't think.

If you log onto the pilotportal.net web site (us heli people are allowed there too) you can chat with Dave Tidwell who set it all up.. he's a server wizard, and knows an awful lot about it. He's also very helpful.

Actually, if you use a headset, and download the software, and then log into it, you can actually talk to him on the TeamSpeak thing, so you can get a better idea of how it works too.

He's a really nice guy.

It's a really fantastic thing, and with the way people are so friendly on this forum, I really think it will work well.

I've also just read that it's free of charge to non-commercial users.... I think this means those who don't charge to use the site.

Adam.
