Also found some nice looking hotels, some of which appear to have helipads, although I haven't had time to go through the lot.

I have just done some ringing around and it seems that Von Essen have several hotels which could accommodate our needs of:

a) A landing area for more than one helicopter
b) Availability for up to 20 (?) for Christmas Dinner
c) Accommodation for some or all of those attending
d) A fully stocked bar

I'm just waiting for them to get back to me on precisely which hotels would be able to do this and on which dates. Also just seen an ad on TV for warner hotels, and WhirlyGuy pulled up all the info on those. They have some really nice looking properties and after a quick chat with their booking centre at least 5 of them can take helicopters.

http://www.warnerbreaks.co.uk/

Maybe you'd like to check them out and let us know what you think of the locations and the venues.

I can probably advise on Warner hotels, I've been to nearly all of them. Not sure if you could just stay for just one night, they usually have weekend breaks going all through December. Just been trying to work out which five they are referring to .

Had a quick look at q hotels, the nottingham belfry looks quite central to most of the forum members. I guessed about an hours flying time for most people with the exception of Devon etc.

Let me know if you want info about Warners.

If you go to Thoresby, Gamston airport is not too far away (about 2 miles, if that), so you could land there if needed and refuel as well.

(I was at Thoresby on Friday (not flying). You can see a picture of it at www.revilloc.com/viewer/viewpicture.asp (click on Thoresby Hall).)

What about Rothley Court Hotel in Leicestershire as a potential 'maybe' for the Christmas Party get-together?

This place was mentioned before, the year we went to Highgate House.

Just a thought.

Also, who and how many would be interested in coming along to the HeliTorque Christmas get-together this year?

Time is ticking by rather quickly ........ soon be Christmas!!

We could make Christmas in November instead of December if that suits Rolling Eyes

Unfortunately, Warners Hotels normally require a minimum of two night stay. I can vouch for Thoresby Hall being a lovely hotel. It is Warners flagship hotel and includes a proper spa area.

When I was there last year I did mention about helicopters here as an idea for a get together. They would accept helicopters but it would have to be with the agreement of the estate management. Warners only own the hall and gardens immediately around it. Helicopters would land on the estate grounds next to the hotel. The senior management of Bourne Leisure apparently usually arrive by helicopter.

As you said Fanpilot, Gamston is not a million miles away, but as I said its usually a two night stay.

The Isaac Walton Hotel in Dovedale looks good but could be a problem weatherwise in December!

Just been onto the Fallow Fields site, situated in Kingston Bagpuize, Oxon (so that is where Bagpuss originated from then!!).

This hotel looks rather nice and the tariff doesn't seem too hefty either.........

Both of these were amongst the 'heli landing sites'

Shame about the Warners hotel only taking bookings for two nights.....we could get WhirlyGirl on the case to 'do a deal'Wink

I will keep looking for more venues...........

I have just thought of another place but I will check out prices, etc first.

Or........

We could go back to Highgate House in Northamptonshire.

That was a really lovely hotel, very relaxing AND it had a swimming pool.........

CW,

Fallowfields is near Abingdon if I remember. Went into this landing site with blme when we were practicing confined areas. All I can say is that it was a prime example of confined. We were fairly light and barely had the power margin to get out - VERY tall trees one side and horses on the other. Big no-no for more than one helicopter.

I will ask around and see if anyone I'm flying with this week can recommend a place.

Hello all

Who, and how many, are interested in the HeliTorque Christmas Party?

We had a fantastic time at our first one at The Arrow Mill, just outside Stratford upon Avon, and the second one at Highgate Hall in Northamptonshire. I am looking at the Thoresby Hall site at the moment, which looks fantastic if we can get the one night stay.

If all else fails I, personally, wouldn't mind going back to Highgate House. It was very relaxed, had it's own swimming pool, pool table, (piano for WhirlyGuy to play!!) etc, etc, plus they let us get on with decorating the room to whatever and however we wanted it to look like.
Even more importantly, there is space to park helis (albeit a little slopey in some parts of the field!!).

(TC: Are you and your lovely Sue joining us for the Christmas doo-dah this year?).

If anyone else has a good suggestion for a suitable location then please post.

We could of course have Christmas in November if December is a little over-family committed! Just a good excuse to have a HeliTorque 'get-together'.............and meet up with our friends from the forum.

Ta ta for now
