I have requested 19:45 for dinner, however I haven't had a reply back so we'll assume it's at that time, but maybe plan to loiter in the bar by 19:00 or so just in case it's not. We'll be getting there at lunchtime in any case (by road) to start the party early and enjoy our weekend off! Feel free to join us, I'm sure you'll find us lurking around somewhere!!

Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Smile

Sarah

The hotel has now informed me that it will be at 19:30! Well, not that 15 minutes will make much difference but just thought I'd let you know.

See you tomorrow!

We are hoping to leave by 1.00pm. Hope the car doesn't let us down - having a bit of trouble with it at the moment. Engine management light showing problem with the emissions!!!!

See you all there later.

Well, that just goes to show I should look here more often. The Isaak Walton is my local regular Sunday lunchtime flyin destination and is about 4 miles from me. I did not even know that this event was on until this morning (Dec 17th). Funnily enough I nearly flew in there yesterday.

Oh well, next year maybe.

Happy Christmas all

Hi Muffin

What aircraft do your fly. We were there yesterday until about 1pm. There was one R44 and a R22 overnight on Saturday night.

Where do you land, they told the two helis to land in the field with about 40m of flat ground before the large slope. It would have been cosy to get more than the two in there before the slope.

I have an R22 and live just the other side of Ashbourne. The "pad" there is the small slopey field in front of the restaurant windows. As you say, the first 40 metres or so are OK but the slope gets worse below that. I have been in there before with one other but you can only park side by side. The problem with the big field over the fence is that there is a very well used public footpath across it going to the stile into the hotel grounds and the walkers always stand about 30 feet away when you are trying to land or take off from there. Also it is usually full of cows in the Summer.

Pity I did not realise the do was on as we were doing nothing on Saturday night.

We found that about the footpath. As soon as either heli started up people appeared on that footpath.

Which way do you find is easiest to approach the pad. It would be a push to get anymore than two in there. The hotel had said with more helis we could use the large field but as you said there is a public footpath and always the fear of someone tinkering with a heli there.

Were you flying yesterday, the R44 pilot heard the mayday call from one of the aircraft in the mid air collision. Probably the one that crashed near Blithfield reservoir. Apparently he was trying to make Tatenhill.

Oh no! That's a real shame - we always try to have it somewhere central so keep a lookout for next year's venue and we'd love to meet you. The more the merrier!

Best wishes,

Sarah

I usually come straight in towards the pad and up its slope to the top with the hills on my right hand side - over the top of the Dovedale car park which is in the trees below the hotel. There is not usually much wind there as the site is screened by the high ground to the North. I have also landed in the big field then hopped over the fence into the pad, and I always go out that way. I would not like to leave it in the big field primarily because of the cows but they are probably indoors at this time of year.

I heard the SAR Sea King presumably from Leconfield go over my house at about 200 feet and 100 kts towards Tatenhill about 1300, and I saw it coming back later on the reciprocal track about 1345. I was flying later but not until 1500 or so - a quick 25 mins just to warm the engine and charge the battery.
