Hi,

Thursday 9th June 2005

I've now managed to secure dates and information for this trip, and have added a little bit more, to make it more interesting.

The plan is now to fly into Southampton Airfield, and transfer by Taxi to Lee-on-Solent.

I've now had confirmation that the Search and Rescue team, run by Bristows, will be very happy to accommodate us on the 9th at about 11.30am, for a tour of their facilities, and hopefully the SAR S61 itself, unless it's out on call.

We will transfer to Swanwick control centre by Taxi to have a look at the London Terminal Control Centre and radar service. This will be a 2 hour guided tour, with lots to see.

Then back to Southampton for our departure.

All the visits are free, but there are some landing fees at Southampton (??27), and Taxi fares.

There is a limit on numbers too, 12 for Swanwick. I would suggest strongly that any helis that come, do so with a full compliment of people, so there's no wasted seats.

The closing date for booking this event is 2nd June, and I will need a full list of all names for the security check at Swanwick. You can turn up by ground transport if you wish, but the total number of people allowed is 12 for Swanwick.

If you want to go, please send me a private message, rather than posting a reply to this thread, and I'll add the information to this thread as it comes in.

For information check out:

SWANWICK London Terminal Control Centre
http://www.nats.co.uk/services/swanwick.html

PLANNED ITINERY
1100h - 1130h Fly in to Southampton
1130h Tour of S61 and Police Helis OR visit to HMS Sultan
1330h Set off to Swanwick
1400h Swanwick Tour
1600h Leave for Southampton, maybe have a coffee there.
1630h Take off from Southampton

NO PHOTOGRAPHY is allowed inside Swanwick. this may also apply at lee-on-Solent, but I will check.

I will be putting this trip out on another forum, only for heli people though, and also through my own school, in case anyone else wants to come along, so as to be sure we get sufficient numbers, so please get back to me soon if you want to come along.

ATTENDING SO FAR:

R22 - G-CCGF Adam Bailey +1
R22 - G_???? Mark Whenham + Craig West (Rotorcraig)
R22 - G-TORS Sarah (WhirlyGirl) + Simon (blme)

Hi Adam!

Thanks for letting us know about this event. Do you have a date planned, or am I just missing it? It sounds very interesting.

I've now added the date....sorry for that. All that information, and I missed the most important bit Smile

All those phone calls getting to me I think!

The only dates available are midweek, as they don't do weekend visits.

Adam.

Damn! Sad

Working nights, I'm afraid, so I will be in the Land of Nod while you lot are helicoptering down to the South Coast.

Have a great day though!

Hi Adam,

Would there be room for two more? If there is, I'll be picking up a friend and flying down in a R22. I've sent you a PM.

Regards,

AGM

Any more takers for this Air Traffic Control Trip?

We've got 6 going at the moment, but more would be great.

Adam.

It's all going a bit tits up for me at the moment, I've lost my pax, and can't find a replacement,,,,and I don't see the point of flying it solo. Looks like I'll be driving there instead.

What a bummer!

Still, will enjoy meeting the others and seeing the LATCC.

I'm sure I'll be at Helitech, but probably not Helidays....I didn't find it that interesting last year....a bit too static for me! But then I am feeling a bit down about tomorrow at the moment, so maybe I'll change my mind about Helidays nearer the time!

Adam, sorry you've lost your pax! I am sure someone would like to fly with you tomorrow!! Anyhow if you do drive over instead of fly, it will be great to meet you all the same!

See you tomorrow.

I honestly can't believe that out of about 50 people I've called, directly or indirectly, there's not a single person available tomorrow for the period needed.

I'll still be going, and am looking forward to meeting everyone, and I'll enjoy my day out too.

And there's always Rutland Water!!!

Adam.

Thanks for organising the trip Adam, it was great to meet you, Whirlygirl and blme. Thoroughly enjoyed the flight into Southampton and the tours, so had a great day all round.

I can't make it to Rutland, but am looking forward to the next jolly!
