I think now is the time to perhaps set some dates for our HeliTorque get-togethers for the year.

One of the places I wouldn't mind going to is "The Inn on the Lake", where the Whirlies went last year.

If anyone out there can recommend any other suitable hotels for maybe, say, half a dozen or so helis to land, then please post. It would be good to get a "bank" of places to visit.

As for the dates, well how about end of April/beginning of May for the first get-together?? Bearing in mind that the Abingdon Airshow is on in May and we mustn't clash with that. Oi_martin will never forgive us Shocked

Here's a couple to start with, both Studland Bay (Poole):

Knoll House Hotel

and

Manor House Hotel

If we're talking about who's poorest.... try recently qualified CPL(H) who's just blown 60k on flying. Crying or Very sad

(I didn't really mean 'blown' by the way, it was well worth every penny, I just don't have very many pennies left now!!!)

But yes, it would be great to do more fly-ins.

To add my two penneth.

How about staying somewhere near Abingdon for the Abingdon weekend, maybe the Saturday night then fly into Abingdon on the Sunday morning. Or fly in on Sunday and stay over into bank holiday Monday.
I can probably suggest a few places around Abingdon that would take helis.

Also, the Isle of Wight was mentioned several times before as another option for the south coast.
We may not be visiting there much more as the father in law has got his house on the market and is moving back to the mainland.

Also if we have enough interest I will approach Warners about a stay there.

Brilliant idea oi_martin about the Abingdon weekend. If you know of any hotels in that area that would accommodate our helis then let us know. Remind me of the date for the show please. Ta.

Isle of Wight still looks good.

Will have a think about hotels round Abingdon. There shouldn't be any problems if people wanted to fly into Abingdon on the Saturday and stay close by.

CW: Not sure when we will be up to the Chester area, will PM you when I know.

Well I am available for either / both - just need the dates. So, on that note I will let someone else decide... I think that is what we need though - a stake in the ground. Someone to say "this weekend / this date; who's coming?"

The Abingdon Air Fayre is on Sunday 4th May 2008, so how about having a get together at a local hotel on Saturday 3rd May.
Will have a think about the local hotels, one that springs to mind is a Hotel and Conference centre which is part of the Devere group. It has a small leisure suite and a bar. Its about 5 miles from Abingdon.
Another is called the Doghouse Hotel at Frilford less than two miles from the Abingdon Airfield.

The alternative is arriving on the Sunday morning and staying the Sunday night and flying back Bank Holiday Monday.

How many would be interested in this idea??

Any thoughts of dates for the South Coast to visit the "poor NATS student", could be a flyout from the hotel to the Isle of Wight for lunch.??
