Okay folks - Summer, hopefully, is almost here Dancing , so I suppose we ought to have some sort of get-together, especially for the newbie PPL(H)'s Bravo!

Because the weather was a load of c*** last summer, we should perhaps try and make up for lost time.

One of my suggestions so far:-

The Coppleridge Inn, Motcombe, Shaftesbury, Dorset SP7 9HW

We have visited this place twice already - not by heli, but by motorbike.

The Coppleridge is a "heli friendly" establishment - loads of room for parking helis thumbleft

Fabulous place, fab views, fab food, fab rooms....... Got their own hens so fab freshly laid eggies - yum yum. And this place also has its very own friendly pussy cat!

I am going to go away now and find some more suitable places for the HeliTorque crowd to fly in - will post soon.

If anyone out there has any ideas for dates, places etc, then would love to hear from you. I am trying to find some locations that would be easy for everyone to get to/from wherever they have to fly/drive from/to.

Bye for now

Cat
xx

And then ............ Christmas HeliTorque get-together location reindeer

That will get the hens laying eggs seeing a bunch of helis descending from the sky.

Wasn't one idea to go down south anyway to see that poor NATS student in the Dorset area. I guess Shaftesbury is not too far away from Bournemouth.

Aaah, yes... the poor NATS student amongst us!!

Ok, I may have said this before - but to avoid this thread drifting off and us never actually meeting anywhere - can I suggest that somebody (perhaps CW) suggests two places and two dates. We then agree on this and those that can come will.... otherwise we could end up debating venues / dates for some time.

Just my two penneth worth.

If we do go somewhere a bit further afield, like as suggested, if anybody who wants to fly from the Midlands (WG/WG/RC) then I will happily cost / fly share with them. You never know, could even get some free instruction these days!!! Wink

Catwoman

This MAY help, map centred on just north of Bournemouth with all the landing sites in my database plotted on it.

http://www.griffin-helicopters.co.uk/landingsitemap.asp?latitude=51.0909603957892&longitude=-1.80720817933282&zoom=09

Alternatively if you are looking for a particular place, try this http://www.griffin-helicopters.co.uk/gazeteer.asp tell it where you want to go , select the most likely one and click the Google Maps Logo.

Cheers

Thanks for that veeany - will check it out later.

But for now folks, something to whet your appetite for a summer fly-in (and especially for James T Lowe!!) I have found a hotel called Balmer Lawn Hotel, Brockenhurst in the New Forest. I have just checked the postcode out on GOOGLE Earth and there seems to be plenty of room for quite a few helis. And there is a swimming pool......

If any of you want to check it out the postcode is:- SO42 7ZB.

Anyway, I am still working on finding a few more suitable places to go.

As for dates ..... how about 28/29 June or 5/6 July? The reason being that it is most peoples payday around those dates Wink And also it is before the kiddie winkies finish for their school holidays Shocked

Remember Barnsdale two summers ago? We went on the last weekend of June and it was the hottest weekend of the year Smile

I'm sure this has been said before, but it would be a good idea to check these places are able to accept helicopters before posting them up on the thread. Although the Three Lions looks very nice, it's not in veeany's list, and having just called them to double check, their response was "absolutely not".

So that one is out I'm afraid.

Hi, first post for ages Embarassed

However, since a recent crop spraying lesson (huge fun), new job and no more being on 24 hour call, it is time to sort out some flying time.

Looking at Google Earth, the back garden looks a little tight Shocked , the field opposite however, looks ideal.

Knoll House Hotel

and

Manor House Hotel

Hey rjc,

Where did you do the crop spraying? Sounds like you had fun! Yeah, that field does look big but if they say no and don't own / have permission from whoever owns the field, there aint much you can do. Be much better to find a place that is suitably equipped (i.e. used to helicopters going in and out, and having a known landing area that we can use). Some even have windsocks (like Coppleridge which was earlier mentioned), and a lot of landing space.

Plus, if we get permission to land in "any old field" someone has to go out there and inspect it - can't really see whether it's suitable from Google Earth, and then there's the security aspect too. I know that not even a hotel premises is totally secure but at least you can keep an eye on it as opposed to leaving it out in the open where any Tom, Dick or Harry could go and mess about with it.

Just my two penneth. I'd really like to establish some dates for a fly-in, so thanks for starting the thread CW (been too busy with my instructor course going on, but I'm just taking a break from my revision right now). Perhaps I can drum up a few newbies to come along by the summer. Smile

So if we can establish the dates we can take it from there.

Sarah
