Just thought I'd shoot this idea past you. We recently stayed a fabulous place near Ludlow, Shropshire, called The Bringewood which is set in a 250 acre plot of land with lots of landing space (and very helicopter friendly people!).

There are about 11 double bedrooms and the place is totally secluded with a really lovely restaurant serving fantastic food (compliments to the chef Thumbs Up )

So, I enquired about booking the entire place out over a weekend for the Christmas do, and here is what I found out...

Availability on Saturday 13th December of all 11 rooms.

This is the menu:

Quote:
Christmas Menu

Starters

Lambs Kidneys and Bacon cooked in Red Wine
**
Grilled Goats Cheese and Butternut Squash Tart
**
Spiced Potted Brown Shrimps
**
Game Terrine served with Cumberland Sauce and Melba Toast
**
Winter Vegetable and Herb Broth

Main Course

Herb Coated Pan Fried Escalope of Turkey served with
Fresh Red Wine and Cranberry Sauce
**
Baked Salmon on Prawn Risotto Basil Oil
**
Vegetable and Chestnut Roulade
**
Burrington Game Casserole flavoured with
Juniper and Rosemary cooked in Guinness Gravy
**
Roast Loin of Pork Sage and Apple Stuffing Cider Sauce

Desserts

Individual Christmas Pudding served with
Brandy Sauce
**
Lemon and Lime Cheesecake
**
Panna Cotta Warm Winter Fruits
**
Local Cheeses served with Homemade Chutneys
And Biscuits

Tea or Filter Coffee

And these are the prices (for two people staying in a double room):

Standard Room : 140 DBB
Deluxe Room : 155 DBB
Superior Room : 170 DBB

For those not staying over, the dinner would be priced at 29 per person 3 course or 25 per person 2 course.

I know it's only August but we can't leave this until the last minute or we'll miss out on the whole hotel being available to be taken over by helicopter pilots for the weekend!! Please post if you'd like to join us for the famous annual "do" and we'll see if we can hold the rooms for a few weeks while people decide whether they're coming along.

And apparently they have resident reindeer... Smile

Here's a link to the hotel's photo gallery.

Here's an aerial photo (all be it a little old) to give you an idea of the amount of landing / approach space. The property was completely renovated from an old farmhouse (and is really very charming). The area I have marked "Primary Landing Area" looks a little different now. It's mostly flat and is large enough for about 3 helicopters. The "overspill area" is a short walk up the hill and although the hill is steep, the top of it is flat and quite large. They have basically said that we can land absolutely anywhere we can find a flat bit in the 250-odd acres so space should really be no problem.

Oh, and they have a lovely resident dog called bizzy. She decided to tag along when we went for a walk in the fields...

Sarah

An excellent choice, I spent an evening there last Christmas (flew in for work) and it is a cracking location, the brothers who run it are a good pair and everything was pretty immaculate, good bar and if you get it pretty much to yourselves even better.

Parking for the larger helis is doable but beware the semi hidden old watch towers in the grounds, they are obvious from the ground but easily missed from above and lost from sight on approach if you are not careful.

Keep a backup plan in case the weather turns if you are fliying as it is quite hilly around there, and an early (like now) note of sunset / night time would also be worth a look as there is very little lighting nearby.

I'll see if i can dig out the photos I did while I was there.

Cheers

GS

Brilliant. Saturday 13th December it is then. The hotel has kindly agreed to hold all the rooms for 2 weeks while you all call up and confirm your booking. Obviously they can't hold them longer than this as it's a busy time of year, but it would be ever so nice if Helitorque could take sole residence for the weekend!

Myself and Whirlyguy have booked in for a superior room already, and I'm sure we won't have any problem filling the hotel judging by the number in previous years. As always, there's a possibility that weather may intervene, so bear in mind, as we have done in previous years, there is always the option of getting in the car! The main objective is that we all see each other and have a good time. The flying, should the weather be kind, is a bonus.

Call Neil on 01568 770 033 and tell him you'd like to book for the Helitorque Party on the 13th December. Specify which type of room you would like, or whether you're only going to be there for the dinner and not staying over. I believe the double rooms are available for single occupancy, but you'd have to check with the hotel to see if there's any difference in price.

I hope many of you will be able to join us and once again keep up the tradition of an excellent, festive Christmas do with superb company.

Sarah

Whirlygirl.

I may be a bit thick here but does the room price include dinner or do we pay for dinner as well.

Should be booking our room very shortly.

Hi Martin

I think you will find that the price does include the dinner as well. I must double check on that.

Anyway, whatever, we are still going to go along. I am looking forward to catching up with our helitorquers.

BTW - we are now ensconced back at Heli Air, so pop in for a cuppa sometime.

Martin,

Yes, DBB = Dinner, Bed and Breakfast for two.

If you are booking a single occupancy room I would assume you'd call up for the B&B Room Rate and then add a 29 dinner. You'd have to check that, but the prices I've quoted above are indeed dinner, bed and breakfast.

If you'd like to go along rooms are first come first served. There are now seven available as far as I can tell. Please post on this thread when you've booked so we can keep track of who is going and so I can update the list. So far we have...

Myself and WhirlyGuy
James and Helen
blme and Catwoman
HeliCraig and Mrs HeliCraig
Oi Martin

And I think there was a slight cryptic clue in James' last post perhaps?
