Dear All

Finally got round to uploading photos of MIskin Manor near Cardiff as a potential location for a fly in. Hope the links work.

Main Building and Lawns

Helipad area ( sorry taken into sun)

Slightly different angle but the big trees can be seen.

Hi all....New to this mad house, but know a few of you from elsewhere...

I really like the idea of regular fly-ins....off airfield would be better, thats why I signed up for this crazy game in the first place Rolling Eyes

Have flown in to miskin before in an R-22. Its literally on the boundary of the Cardiff control zone.... Not sure how they would take to lots of activity on their doorstep??

Would be awsome to actually meet some of you!

Hi Tegwin - Welcome to Helitorque.

The fly ins vary between numbers of helicopters from just a few to a half dozen or more.
I don't actually fly but whats the approach like into Miskin. Do you make the approach to one corner then hover taxi across.

Miskin's brochure states three helipads but i guess they would cut more if we had a group for Sunday lunch.

Forgot to say Tegwin, why not come along to the Xmas party, see other thread for details, think there is still some rooms left.

Its in Herefordshire, don't know how far that is for you.

oi_martin

Not sure where you are going for our Xmas 'do' Rolling Eyes But the rest of us are going to The Bringewood, Ludlow, Shropshire Cool

Saying that, I think I had better double-check Shocked

Technically, I think oi_martin is right. According to the OS, for the pedants amongst us, The Bringewood is just on the Herefordshire side of the Herefordshire/Shropshire border - only by about half a mile by my reckoning.

However, their postal address is Ludlow, which is of course, in Shropshire. So Catwoman's sort of right too... Wink Very Happy

oi_martin. I made an approach to the middle-ish of the field away from the hotel, and just hover taxied across, Was the only heli there, so no issues parking Cool Plenty of space to screw things up, so quite a friendly landing site Razz

Just to throw another name out there... lake Vyrnwy hotel has a helipad and is an amazing place to visit...good food too.. You might just squeeze 4-R-44s onto the pad if people park tidily right at the edge of the spot... Quite a tricky approach though Rolling Eyes

Pad at the far middle left of the picture

The lake...

Lake Vrynwy is a fab place to fly to, especially over the reservoir and then over the dam. This is usually the "stopping off for lunch place" when we come back from the Snowdonia mountain flying course.

Thanks for the info about the Shrops/Herefordshire border bit JTL Wink
