What am I missing out on here? I have XP Pro and IE6....

So, what is it, where is it, why have you all got one, and how do I wiggle it?

I should be told, I am confused, what is a Favicon? Confused

Hi there CF,

The favicon is a little icon that should show up next to the URL of a site that you visit (providing the site owner has uploaded one!).

If you take a look in your browser in the address bar where you type the URL to take you to a website and if there is one provided then you should see an icon next to the website address instead of the standard web-browser icon.

The jiggling and wiggling part was because a lot of the time on IE (PCs) the icon doesn't show up and although I have no rational or technical explanation for it sometimes picking up and jiggling the icon bullies IE into showing the correct icon. Apparently there is still a bug in IE (PCs) that will stop a favicon from showing up sometimes and on some days it will be there and on others it won't!!

A couple of quick screenshots from IE running on a PC emulator (Parallels) on a MacBook Pro.

This image shows what the icon looks like normally. At this point the icon was uploaded to the server but due to the bug in IE (PCs) it didn't show up.

This image shows the icon now showing up due to my picking up the IE icon and literally wiggling it around. Once I let go of the icon it updated and showed the correct icon!!

Hope this helps some.

Thanks Whirlyguy!

Great screenshots; Mac's just take the p*ss out of Pc's today don't they?

I tried wiggling and it worked.....until I did this reply.....then, when it updated the page it reverted to the old one...... Rolling Eyes

But at least I have seen it after wiggling it about a bit..... Embarassed

I'd get me coat, but as Oi Martin said, it seems to have gone...who's kept it?

Hi CF,

No problems! I'd better not get into the debate as to whether Macs are better than PCs as it might start a war but just to say that ever since using the first Macintosh system when it first came out I have never ever looked back... only forward!

Glad you got to see it in the end though. Maybe you should try wriggling your arms, maybe your coat will re-appear??!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Just an update;

I now have the favicon in my favourites list and when I log onto 'Forums,' but if I read a post it disappears.... Rolling Eyes

At least I can see it sometimes.... Wink
