Just in case anyone hasn't had an email from them, Flightstore currently have 30% off all books - I've just ordered the Phil Crouch book for a far more palatable £35 (rrp is £50, which seems rather steep).
Of all the books I've seen thus far, the best in terms of clear explanations is the FAA Rotorcraft Flying handbook, which can be found as a free PDF online.
I really can't recommend the Pooleys' JAR Helicopter Manual - it commits the cardinal sin of mentioning things in passing with the assumption that you already understand them before it actually explains them. I'm hoping that the Phil Crouch book will be better in this respect.
